hi guys, lately i been having a problem with my tranny. i noticed when trying to merge with traffic the car wont switch to over drive but if i move the shifter from D to 4 and then 4 to D she will shift. some days she shifts no problem.all other gears are nice and smooth, no delays. oh 95 740i with 80,000 on transmission. transmission was serviced 7 months ago when it was installed. can someone tell me where to look.

Was the torque converter changed also?

I was wondering if the correct fluid was used. These are picky.

+1 oil level and could also be a speed sensor

replaced the converter with the one i came with.
i will change the fluid and make sure its full, but how do i kno if the speed sensor is bad

have an indy or dealer check the senors with DIS
No need to swap fluids yet just fill her up and see if that helps, if it does then swap fluid

check everything and even cleaned the sensors with electrical cleaner. now its starting to act up more often, i also am starting to hear a whirling noise. is it possible its the tranny filter

Whining noise is low oil and could be aftermarket filter

well fluid is definitly full cause when i pulled the filler plug off the fluid was dripping out and thats with the car cold and leveled. should i change the filter and see what happens? this thing is crazy cause if i drive slow it will shift fine and as soon as i get on it will downshift but wont change gears unless i bring the shifter down to 4 and back to drive

ditto. spilled coffee on console and even after it was clean would do the same thing for weeks until switch dried out.
