Yes Yes a noob topic....
First off im split on the steering wheel emblem
im going to buy new OEM roundels and use bimmian black overlays so i dont have to waste money on cheap ebay roundel's, BUT
i have a 98 NON sport steering wheel, and the emblem on this is not the same as a newer one. (is isnt smooth or flat)
-how would i remove the plastic cover on top of the embelm-
Can a replacement emblem from ebay be put on the old top of old emblem with no problems? PICS?
Of course i would have the batter unplugged for my safty.
im going ebay for the steering wheel only because it wont ware inside the car, unlike the outside which is exposed to everything under the sun.
-also bimmian offers steering wheel overlays too?

I'm pretty sure you can't remove the roundel from the steering wheel, even if you can i would not recommend it mostly for safety sake. If you want a new one i believe you have to replace the airbag aswell.

yes i know the roundel itself is unremove-able, but my point is on older E39's the was a clear plastic a few mm thick between me and the roundel (aka Cover!) now is that removable so i can put a full replacement roundle on top of the existing roundel. Or should i just put the roundel on top of the plastic? i have no idea if it would come out like crap. Just having to see a roundel sticking out the steering wheel.

Not sure if that's possible but surely seems to be a safety issue. If that airbag deploys, where is that loose piece gonna go??
I'm curious about the replacement too as mine was looking old and now my son has hammered a dent into it...

You can put an ebay roundel on top of your old one with no problems. I don't have pics but it looks stock. The one from underneath doesn't show at all.

no the plastic clear cover is in good condition, but im debating on putting the emblem on top or remove the plastic cover and place a new emblem on top of the org.

Just put the new one on top of the old one. The new emblem you're gonna get is going to have a concave shape anyway. It should fit fine.. Do you have the new emblems?

currently no, but ive done the same thing on a X5, but the x5 doesnt have the cover so it was straight forward, im porbly gona give black ebay emblems a try before i spend the money on oem, just for the reason ebay can supply the steering wheel emblem. All i needed was a good opinion on what i should do.

I tried Bimmian's "overlays" aka stickers but it didn't look right (blue would show). My kit did not include the steering wheel. However, it may now. In the end, I bought actual Rondells (not from ebay) which replaced the OEM blue with black. I left the steering wheel alone - - who really cares anyway.
