i just had a question about the warranty. I was looking to buy a 2010 335ix. i see online at bmwusa.com that an additional warranty can be purchased, adding 2 years/50,000 miles to the existing warranty, 4 years/50,000 miles. my question is if it would be worth it to get the extension for an extra 2 grand? i hear bmw parts are expensive and i would rather pay 2 grand now instead of paying 5 grand in 5 years if something goes wrong.

I plan to stop by the dealer and see if I can add it to my 08. Otherwise it's trade in time at 5 years or 50000, whichever comes first.

what exactly does the warranty cover? does it cover all problems not caused by the driver? i think i might do what acmaui is doing, just try to trade in after the warranty is up.

I would not pay for this now. In the vast majority of cases extended warranties are not worthwhile. Why pay now for something that you will not even get benefit from for four years? What if you total the car, its stolen, you sell it in the next four years? Warranties you pay for are insurance. Why insure a small risk like the cost of a car repair? If you can afford a $50,000 car now then the cost of a car repair over four years from now is not something to worry about, and certainly not something to shell out $2,000 for.

You can buy the warranty at any point after you buy the car, probably a little cheaper too. I'd suggest you not buy it when you buy the car. Then, if you still have the car when the factory warranty is about to expire, that would be the time to buy it.

bmw has 2 warranties for the car. 1 is a maint .warranty and the other warranty covers bumper to bumper. if it is maint. then you should wait until the 4 year are about to expire.....if the brakes have never been done in the 4 years or 50,000 miles then you should get the extended maint. warranty because new brakes and rotors will be about the same cost as the extended warranty. then you can enjor the other maint. services for free for the life of the extended warranty.........my final advice would be if the car is out of warranty,,get rid of it.

If I deciphered your post correctly, you are right that they sell an extended maintenance plan, as well as extended warranty. Whether you need them or not is for you to decide, but you don't need to buy them up front. You can buy them at any point before the originals expire. And the cost is not the same from all dealers. You can save some money by shopping around.

ok that is good to know, i assumed that you had to get the extension when you get the car.

An extended warranty, especially on a BMW, will make all the difference if and when you try to sell it.

Careful everyone... Professional coming through!!! :buttrock

You can purchase that 2OP warranty anytime up until the original warranty's expiration (and past, up to 5 years/60k). However, it will never be cheaper than it is now. There was recently a price increase, and I'd wager that there will be more in the future, I just don't know when. Also, purchasing the warranty at the same time as the car allows you to roll the cost into your monthly payment... if that's attractive for you, you won't be able to do that at a later date.

It is NOT a bumper-to-bumper warranty. When you purchase BMW's extended warranty, you are purchasing the EXACT SAME coverages and deductible as the CPO warranty. In a nutshell, it covers ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, MECHANICAL COMPONENTS, ELECTRIC DRIVES AND ELECTRONICS EXCEPT RADIO, NAV AND CD. It doesn't cover any trim items, no soft interior parts, no suspension components and no wear and tear items.

Dealers are free to charge whatever they want for these warranties, but BMW does show the list prices on their website.

HAHA...that makes a difference ;) You're right, you can buy it up until the originals expiration. That is what I plan to do myself, if I still have the car and plan to keep it. Which is my plan now, but who knows in a couple years. That's why I think waiting is best. But that's just me...

I think it's better to wait.I'm going to do the same.I usually don't keep a car that long.
I do love the feel and power of the 335.Could be a keeper but definitely only with an extended warranty.Don't leave home without it!:D

Hmmmm... you know that may only apply to the Maintenance Program Upgrade. I can find a bulletin for that, but not for specifics on the Original Owner's Protection Plan.

But for the Maintenance Plan, you can upgrade after 4/50 and up to 5/60 for an additional $200.

I'm waiting till my 50K is coming to an end, then I'll be purchasing the extended warranty. Car hasn't been running solid for the last 32K miles, unfortunately =(
