View Full Version : Anyone else find it odd that there's hardly any reman parts for our cars?

IE, body trim/mechanical and the like. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with an OEM product till you get the bill. It's just that if you venture over to the E30 side of the world for example, there's a plethora of products available. You'd think that the manufacturers of those components would stand to make a good coin doing something like say, reproducing classy bumpers and even going so far as making it in such a way, that they bolt up to the US components with no issue.

Same goes with exhausts. I should be happy to pay 750-1200 for something that costs less than 250 to manufacture? Rather mind boggling, but sadly I'm forced to presume it's due to either the limited number of the cars on the road, the lack of interest in the owners, or any combination of the two.

Everyone likes to complain about the lack of valences out there, esp the quality of the examples that frequent eBay, yet no one has attempted to contact anyone regarding copies?

Just venting, makes my quasirestoration financially interesting, especially when weighing in any possible return.

First, there is no return. :) Come to terms with that, and you'll enjoy it a lot more!

Why are there no reman body parts? My guess is that its not financially viable to a mfgr to tool up to make the parts. There weren't that many of these sold, comparatively speaking, to the E30.

Trying to, I have two parts of my brain duking it out over it

You're probably spot on with the latter. I just have to laugh when I see someone wanting 1K for a valence though.

Years ago, you could get some aftermarket fenders and lens. But the demand is not there and the volumn does not allow for it expecially since BMW does continue to support our cars: find another mfg that does so as well. There were probably 10x the e30 made in one year as the whole run for the e24. And then you has US and euro changes.

Last I checked, there were multiple options for exhaust and then there are a few options for spoilers.

Not enough guys stepping up and I really don't want to tie up a bunch of my own money and be in the parts business. This originally was done as a favor to myself and six other guys who need them. So, I am not sure how I am going to proceed. The guys who said they wanted them, were all no shows when it came time to put up the dough. So, let's see what happens. I will figure out a way to get it done,. Anyone needing the rubber outer door window squeegees, let me know. The ones I had made are as nice or nicer then the originals. You can not buy this rubber anywhere else.

Well there were 29 E30's produced for every 1 e24, so it would make no business sense to make parts that only fit them. Personally I'm glad of it, imagine if all the crap they sell for Honda's was available for E24's!

We could get Z3 fenders!

Wait, don't worry, that was sarcasm.

I wouldn't mind seeing euro bumper clones however.

Even FG fenders (stock copies) wouldn't be a bad thing, eventually, the junkyard stocks will run out/low. Or reproductions of the bumper trim pieces (ie, bellows).

I am actually talking with a local guy who makes FG, CF and Kevlar bike and car parts and he said we could do hoods, fenders, trunk lids and sunroof panels. I've got good pieces to use for molds but I'd need to coordinate a group buy to make it economical. We are probably talking about a minimum of ten pieces of any given panel but it's definitely doable.

I'd definitely be in for forward fenders, and any euro bumper duplicates.

$200 shipped. Only other way to get them is in unit with the chrome at almost $600 the pair. The ones I have made are die extruded, modern rubber and flocked on the back like original. Never a complaint on the 24 pair sold

I hear that BMW still supports the 303 Cabriolet... Marvelous!

Call me ignorant, but what's so special about the window wipes? Are you guys referring to the windshield wipers? I haven't replaced mine yet but are they hard/rare to replace? What's wrong with the $10 blades from the local auto parts store?

It be the arms methinks Horatio...not the legs...

Especially the w/ the high speed spoilers on them that keep them firmly on the glass while furiously fending off the water to provide good visibility...Wait until one day when one actually flys off at speed and you'll know precisely how important (and hard to find) they are in the proper size...Just FYI, here's the legs...

Along with the window wipes Bert also offers an exquisite line of silk ass wipes. They are hand woven and embroidered by beautiful Hmong girls deep in the Laotian jungle under an exclusive contract with Chairman Bert and can be yours for only $ 100,000.00 (prepaid terms only !) a roll. He plans on retiring after securing the first 100 orders from us.

im sorry, but i, as secretary of agriculture for the laotian jungle, have to disagree with that price, and secondly, do those legs have scales or tire marks? or is my vision from living in the hellish jungle landscape THAT bad????

Maybe I am making the wrong kind of rubber!! These are not arms or legs, though the legs looked good. These wipes, or squeegees, prevent water from running down the outside of the door glass into the doors. Taylor are you imbibing already?? It's not even after four yet.. Not ass wipes, but the flannel wiping cloths that go in the tool kit
