It's between this and an X5. I'm really, really, really, leaning towards the Range. It just looks so good to me. As some of you may remember, when I got my 2nd (titanium) E38 I was debating on getting a Range instead but I didn't get it but now I'm looking at getting one fairly soon so time to find one I....well we (girlfriend and I) like.

Range Rover > X5!
agreed but its also more expensive isn't it?
i actually like the look of the new x5 though too, dont like the older models at all though
When I bought my current 7 I test drove an 01 Range. It didn't have the nav or the headrest monitors but the interior had the same sweet color with the piping on the seats. It was really hard but I did not like the way it handled at all:( I guess I was just used to driving a 7 but they are pretty sweet. Good Luck man its a buyers market out there!

It is more expensive for sure than the x5, but man that mofo is sweet. I like the new x5 too but it rides like a tank unless you wanna wait until X5 M come out then you should be good. Get the Range Super charged and your good 400 ponies comfort is nice interior is beautiful, and last but not least shit... it's Pimp you can't never go wrong with a Range. Not Saying the X5 is not nice but I think the Range is a better more Suited SUV than the X5 but that's my opinion it's up too the Man and his Lady what are they prefences, budget & what they like and what are they gonna use it for.
For me Range Rover > X5 all day long! To tell you the truth if, I had unlimited budget I'll go with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo or the GTS Now that puppy is bad ass:eek: Best of Luck to Cashmere in what they decide.

01 range is not the new body style...the new body style is really nice.

Yeah I hear you but I am only going to fork out enough cash for the Range right now because I don't want to empty my bank account on a porsche lol.

04-05 Ranges are going for under 26K with as low as 40,000 miles which I don't think is pretty good considering the price new.

i don't like the dashboard layout of the range rover or the centre console, i prefer to be wrapped into my car so to speak, it's a bit van-ish to me, i'd have an X5 over one of the range rovers, or a Q7 actually did you look at a Q7?

the Range still has the BMW motor...but make sure all the electrics work...I have a 03 Discovery and when it rains the ABS and TCS light comes on for no apparent reason.
And anything lower than the 4.8 is nothing special

Ah, decisions decisions. For what it's worth, I was also considering an early RR (03-04) which can be had fairly "cheap" ~$20k. However, they have the Bimmer motor, which is good but considering the beast ways 5500 pounds (a grand more than our e38's), it will just struggle when loaded up and going up hill. I mean the e38 is pretty quick but not a speed demon. Add another thousand pounds and the drag of full time 4WD, it will be a slug.
So, I decided I will wait another year or two, save up some money, wait for prices to fall and then buy the bid daddy 06+ Range supercharged. I've been reading up on RR.net as well (great resource but the Range is not as well documented as our e38's go as far as helpful resources for DIY repair)

Well as far as speed, I don't need it in the Range. I'm buying it more for style, comfort and luxury. I could put the cash down I would use to buy the Range straight out on a brand new Range or anything really but I prefer no car payments. Easier that way. I figure, if i can't buy it with cash, then I don't need it. :cool
I'm hoping to find a good deal on a supercharged range though but considering I don't want car payments and no one is selling them in the mid 20k range then I'm out of luck for now...but hey I could sell my 7 and add that cash and go all out but then I'd miss my 7. :-(

My girlfriends cousin has a Q7....they are nice, lots of gadgets inside but they don't really do it for me from the outside ya know?

Yes, I went on the assumption that one would buy it outright. I do the same as I never have purchased a used car with payments (maybe someday when I'm rich enough to buy $100k+ cars but not now). Since supercharged ones are no where near the 20-30k threshold, I figured I'd wait a bit longer for the prices to come down and also save up a bit more to increase my threshold.
As for speed, I hear ya but it's more about comfort & safety than speed. I would not be looking to win any races in it but I still want enough power to carry a fully loaded car up hill at freeway speeds and be able to take off and merge without breathing hard (again, a fully loaded car with gear and peeps)

Yeah...we're planning on moving to FL so I can't go all out unfortunately...but I think the range is nice and practical and it's still in the bmw family. Believe it or not, I like how it looks straight from the factory. Maybe some interior mods of course, but the exterior looks good to me as it is. I think i'm at the point in my life where i'm over the 26's etc and just like the nice clean look of luxury vehicles as they come from the factory, right down to the wheels.

the discovery has the same interior and a better suspension system. the only differences are the motor, badge, and the price.:rolleyes
