iirc, the hub center of the e38 is the same as the e34, so it would be too small for the e39.

I know E39's and E38's are the same hub size they are 74.1 mm. I have always been told the E34's are different than the E39 or E38. My Hargte Classics are from a 2000 740iL and they fit perfect. At one time I tried to buy ACS Type III off a 95 E34 540 but I was told by ACS that they would no fit my car.
Good luck

from uuc digest archives...

There is no difference in hub size between E32 and E38. In fact, there is no difference in any BMW 5-bolt hubcenter size (all are 72.6mm) except for E39 5-series (74.1mm).

I have a set of M parallels off a 740 on my E39 Touring. They Bolt right on and look great!

BTW, I think you can get hub adapter rings to make them fit smaller hubs.

E23, E24, E28, E31, E32, E34, and E38 all have a hub size of 72.5 mm.

E39 hub size is 74 mm.

seriously confused now how you got those E38 m parallels to fit your E39. :95 they do look badass on the touring tho.

Those parallels look like replica rims and they make them all to fit the e39 hub and just install hubcentric ring.

I guess you are right because my Hartge Classics came off an E38 but I do have the hub centric rings. At first I didn't have the rings are the car shook like crazy. I need all four corners to have the rings to be able to stop the shaking.

I have heard that some E39 owners have bored out the hub to allow proper fitment. Don't know if that's a good idea or not.
