I think the E46 are H7 and the e36 are 9006, making them different. I can be wrong tho.

The bulbs from the E46 xenons are D2S or D2R. These bulbs will NOT fit any other BMW headlight without creative modification installation.

The bulb will physically fit in the 9006 housing hole, but you will need to secure it with some silicone, epoxy or machine screws.
