I have been researching and from what I can tell I am just supposed to pound thse two "sheering bolts" away with a hammer and chisel? Is that right?

Is there any way to just pull them out? Also, if they do get ruined do new ones come with the new steering lock?

Have fun with those. I thought I had to take them out to pull my dash and spent forever doing working on them, finally gave up (got the dash out anyway). Yeah you need new ones no matter how you get them out.

i would probably use a dremel.

Like i said man... push start FTW!! no need to deal with all that bullshit....

are they actually screwed in or are tehy more like doll pins?

I don't like push starts man... not sure why. I just like turning a key.

I'll first try cutting screwdriver slot in the head with a dremel or die grinder. If they are too tight for that, I'll weld a nut to the head of the bolt. In either case the bolts can then be reused.

If you are just looking to disable the steering lock, wouldn't this be easier? http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=15830376&postcount=67

Ah, sorry. The point is to disable the steering lock - that spring is the trigger piece for the lock - by the simplest means. Easier to drill out that spring than replace the lock piece. In some cases, for track cars, the steering lock is a potential hazard and so has to be removed.

Whatever you do, use regular bolts when you reassmble.
