How does a senior in HS own an R33?
R33 I think were the worst ones, they are also the only ones left legal to import after the Motorex disaster. R32 and R34=no go.

the r33 was the only one legal to import since motorex did skyline fans a favor and crash tested a few R33 skylines. they pass the NHTSA requirements to be a safe street legal car. hopefully i get some cash and one day own a R33 GTR Vspec 2.

A mechanic admitting a joyride in a customer's car on an internet forum? Sounds like this may end the same way as the dude that put the video camera in his Tundra and busted the service department at his local dealer.

Uh, I don't think it's a Z06...
I wouldnt be bragging about taking customer cars out for a joyride. You never know if the owners, especially the M5 owner, are on the forum reading this. If it were my car and I found out, I'd make sure you got fired and would raise hell with the owner of the shop. Joyrides are a HUGE problem amongst the third generation RX-7 community and have caused lots of damage to these cars. Lucky for me, I've never been a victim of this since I do all my own work and never let valet touch my car but other people havent been so lucky.
In this shitty economy, people should be taking care of their jobs with their life instead of risking them by doing stupid things and bragging about them in a public internet forum.

IIRC, only 96-98' R33 Skylines are able to be registered and driven in the US unless they are for track/show. I'm pretty sure you can thank Motorex for that. I did see an R33 GTS25t in the states once with Oregon plates at a racing event. In Canada these things are comparatively abundant, although the one you posted is cleaner than average. That Skyline would probably go for 20k or more in the US for the car alone while you can pick one up in Canada for 8k or less thanks to the 15 year rule.
OP, slower than you expected? This isn't FnF. The R33 GTS doesn't have the greatest power/weight ratio. It's the heaviest Skyline made (unless you count the R35) and it barely makes over 240hp. Those with experience will tell you the older R32 is more fun.
And personally, I don't think I would have gone as far as you said you did. 140mph on the highway is pretty stupid, let alone the fact that it was with someone else's car.

The r33 gtr while not near as nice as the 34 is still a beast and i will own one. The Gts-t are the biggest waste of money, no rb26 no awd means you just paid 30 grand for a 240 with an rb25 swap. I certainly wouldnt lose my job joy riding one of those, now the m5 id probably risk it. Either way i sure as hell wouldnt make posts about taking a customer car to 140.

The BCNR33 is a very good car in it's own right, just as the BNR32 was a pioneering sports car. The R32 dominated motorsports, but the R33 had tougher competition, and is a bit underrated. It's still a very advanced car, even by today's standards. It was one of the first production cars to do the ring in under 8 minutes. Only thing I'd change is lose the soft styling and some weight. BNR34 is every JDM fanboy's dream. It is for Japan what the Ferrari is to Italy. When they hit Canadian shores in 2015 a lot of people will be very excited. Myself, I've seen 5 different generations of the Skyline in person, including 3 BNR34's up close.

It is always surprising to me how people still post things on the internet that can hurt them. Posting pics and bragging about joy ridding a customer's car at 140 (on a forum of enthusiasts with similar cars) is like robbing a store and posting the pictures on your public facebook page.
I would hope no one on the forum from your area recognizes your shop and calls your manager. I may start looking for a new job to be safe.

Reminds me of the when that Ford mechanic boasted about taking a customers supercharged Cobra out for a "test run" and then posted it on a Mustang forum. The owner was a member on the forum and busted the mechanic and the dealer. The kid got fired, she got a new Cobra out of the deal and the dealer had very bad press over the whole thing.
OP, it's nice you get to drive cars like that. I get to drive some nice cars at the shop I work at part-time, however I would never even begin to think of doing something as foolish, careless and down right inconsiderate as that.

Mechanics do take cars out for test runs....make sure everything is back together properly. i.e. no leaks or loose bolts that can't be found with the car just sitting there.
Obviously- you don't hoon it or do something that would cause damage - or something dangerous. And of course- you break it you fix it.

Sorry for the Cell pics
On the R33 Skyline i installed a HICAS Lock Out bar, and did a alignment on it, it has a stock motor (RB25DET) but everything suspension done to it, so weird to drive a manual with your left hand you have no idea, it was slower than i thought it would be, owned by a senior in HS btw :crying
The 06 M5 with the semi auto tranny - 5k miles
i was a little disappointed with the M5 on the first joy ride i took, but i went home and did some research on the "M" button on the steering wheel :evil2 and holy god that thing becomes a monster!!!! 100 hp with the push of a button is no joke, you can get that thing sideways by just stomping on it, didnt like the tranny rather have a good ol stick shift, got it up to about 140 on the highway :D
Currently have a 08 Z06 w the new LS3 motor in my bay which is getting a Borla Exhaust System, cant wait to drive that thing, 400hp in a car that weights as much as a honda accord is deadly...
The perks of being a mechanic in a rich neighborhood = priceless
Perks of being the owner are to have you fired.
While with a colleague at lunch he noticed HIS car in the parking lot of the restaurant. His wife had brought it for service to the local dealer.
Using his keys he took it back to the office and waited for the phone call.

The local BMW dealership had a tech which "owned" VIP tuning. They made the first 11 sec 335. Heck I videotaped the video of that night. Guy took a car for a joyride and plowed a tree with it. Pass your keys around and I'm sure you'll be Mr. Popular in no time.
But to have your car thrashed and trashed by someone not authorized to hit the road with it is criminal.
Let's raise a potential situation here...how about if he wrecked it at 140? Or took out a family at that speed? Doesn't look quite so innocent anymore, eh?
Doesnt make me sad. The community is looking out for each other by cross posting this. I would be very grateful if someone found a story about a tech joyriding my car at triple digit speeds without my knowledge. I would get the guy fired and then make a nice donation to the forum for it. Many things can go wrong while driving like an ass and if this person did a hit & run for example, some pissed off cops will come knocking on the owner's house door.
I've seen a few threads over on the RX-7 forum about joyriders wrecking RX-7s while they were supposed to be at a shop getting a head unit installed or getting basic maintenance somewhere. Stuff like this shouldnt be tolerated.

Guys that fuck up get themselves fired. There's no need to go out of your way to get it done for him.
Do I approve of him doing it? No. Would I throw someone my keys if I thought they were going to drive 140? Maybe, it depends on the driver. Would I leave my car somewhere that a tech could take it joyriding? Since I've been a driver I've had my car in for service exactly once. Someone else working on it just doesn't happen.
Him wrecking it and taking out a family? What are you, a Fox News talking head? Don't divide the issue by bringing up hypothetical situations and whatifs. Obviously I don't want anyone to die or cars to get wrecked, but EVERYONE makes poor decisions. I don't feel it's our right to judge him for his mistakes, jumping on the bandwagon to get him fired for it is certainly not something I'd endorse.
While you're all patting yourselves on the back for getting him fired just remember that you could have taken the opportunity to educate him to the errors of his ways, and potentially done some good, rather than taking a guy's livelyhood away from him.

Same here when I work on RX-7s. The last thing I need is an angry customer telling everyone about how I test drove his car like a jackass and hurting my business because of it.
I've worked at a dealer and have seen how young porters drive cars around like they stole them. One time someone who witnessed a porter driving like an ass on the streets followed him in and told the manager about it. The dealer's owner just happened to be there at the time and the porter got fired right there and then. People like this are huge liabilities for the business they work for.
Hopefully the OP learns from his mistake and acts like a professional the next time he takes a car out on the road. He should be extremely grateful if he still has his job when the dust settles.

I can count my dead family from accidents on more than one hand, including nuclear family, so don't think you're alone in that situation. Sorry if the situations being similar formed us into different people, or perhaps we grow into the people we're destined to be regardless of the events that occur along the way. Sorry about your family, I really mean that, but people learn more from their experiences when you teach them, not beat it into them.

Bin he could read all this and still not care. I could even have his # call and tell him, and he could still do it. A real man wouldn't take another man's hard earned car out for a dangerous joyride without even notifying him. Unless this guy comes in and fesses up that he is a liar and he didn't do it, I will be contacting his work by tomorrow.
You know where he works?
Woh. You're calling his work? If his place is like any of the other places I've dealt with, they probably won't even care.
You are probably right. The owner of the car would have to be the one to say something, since he is the one with the business at this place...

You could probably find out what dealer the car came from, but I doubt the dealer would divulge their owner info to anyone. Especially if it got out that they let mechanics like this guy work on their cars.
Agreed, the owner would need to step up. You might get lucky and find the owner directly.

Mechanics do take cars out for test runs....make sure everything is back together properly. i.e. no leaks or loose bolts that can't be found with the car just sitting there.
Obviously- you don't hoon it or do something that would cause damage - or something dangerous. And of course- you break it you fix it.
Test drive yes. Joyride :nono

The porter that got fired for driving like an ass in my previous post still drove like an ass after wards. The manager and owner talked to him and he didnt care. He lived in the same city and area as me and would frequently see him barreling down the street in his car. Not all people are the same but like the saying goes... you can't teach an old dog new tricks :stickoutt
Bin, I have respect for you because you've always came across as a great person but while a man to man talk will work with you and me, the same can't be said about everyone. :( Im not going out of my way to get the guy fired but what does he expect to happen on the internet full of super sleuths?
I guess he expected more of a "Good for you, you got to have fun" from guys he thought were his friends than "You irresponsible dick, I'm getting you fired".

I just keep thinking what if it was my car? On the other side of the coin the owner could sue the shop, or spread bad press; now this young man is messing with the shop owner's livelihood - unless he condones it. I can't have simpathy for this, if even for the fact that he bragged about it. The fact that he was so immature as to brag and post pics makes me even wonder if this whole story even happened. Who would let someone that exibits these qualities take a $$$$$$$$$ car out?

I heard from my mechanic that some BMW's (he mentioned M3's specifically) have some hidden records of max speeds and tach readings. He thought only the dealers had the back way in to access the data.
Lets the dealership know if the.... "I was just driving along at 55 and she stopped working" story is really the...."last thing the engine saw was 10k rpms from a money-shift" story.
I can't really say I feel bad for the witch hunt at this point. Loosing one's job as a mechanic seems like a consequence for the idiocy displayed by the OP (this includes the forum posting). Ron White said it best...

My neighborhood mechanic plugged his laptop into my car and got a bunch of info. He mentionned how he could pull a lot more from newer BMW's..info regarding power window use, seats, all sorts of tiny details. Surely they can pull up info from recent joyrides.

you're probably the one who called the cops on me when i was driving down to the lake a couple weeks ago, passed a group of cars in a legal passing zone, and find the sheriff waiting for me at the end of the road. says he heard i was driving wrecklessly back there and i kinda laughed a little, said all i did was pass a couple groups of cars in the legal passing zones and that was it, let me go. they were going 5mph below the speed limit and my exhaust is a little raspy and loud so when i passed they heard that and of course being the regular drivers they are prolly thought i was hauling ass that that sporty bmw. too bad M50 + auto = not so sporty.
they thought they were doing a good deed i'm sure, but in the end, they are fools, ignorant and wasted my time and the sheriff's time for no reason. ratting people out doesn't do a damn thing. go instruct at DE's or teen clinics if you want to help people be a better driver, but damnit, leave me alone and get out of my way :)

The guy came on the forum and bragged about doing things that are absolutely a danger to anyone who would be on the road with him. Of course it may not be true, but is it worth a 5 min phone call to let somebody know about his wreckless actions? Yes.
Hard working guy losing his job? Somebody who does not endanger lives will be there to take his place. Welcome to the free market.
This is snitching? Are you kidding me? Are you 15 with a Tupac shirt?
If anyone has his contact info or the info on his shop, PM it to me and I will at least let somebody know who knows this person, and can make a decision himself. The point is not to have this guy fired, but take a couple of minutes to alert somebody else who can look into it properly. I have absolutely no problem helping somebody get what they deserve, be it a burn to the ego for lying on the internet, or getting fired for risking the lives of people in his community by being reckless.

That would be a start. Im glad you came back and posted here rather than hide from the forum. It's ok to take a car out for a test drive but dont beat the shit out of it just for your own personal pleasure. Ask the owner of the car when he/she picks it up if they can give you a ride in it. The last thing you need is to have the whole internet harassing you at your home/work because of a bad decision at work. I can tell you love your job because of the different cars you work on but I wouldnt abuse that privilege by taking expensive cars or any car for that matter on a wild test drive. You never know what can happen out on the road.
I dont know how old you are but I hope you learned something from all this and if you're still going to act like a douche, at least keep it to yourself.

This guy doesn't work for the dealer...looks more like a goodyear shop or something like it to me. I've been to the BMW dealer in Charlotte...not it
when I said dealer, I meant the BMW dealer it came from. It had dealer tags on it so I assume it came from the dealer.

If you really want to go out of your way to make a difference go sit in the parking lot of a bar and call the cops on everyone that stumbles to their car.
EXACTLY! :drink1
Cops around here do that anyways. :pullover

The car, van really, belonged to my friend.
Okay, here is another little tale of what can happen when a mechanic gets behind the wheel of a powerful car he perhaps doesn't have the skills to operate.
At the vintage racing festival in Elkhart Lake, WI. at Road America there is a tradition of parading many of the race cars into the town after the Friday practice sessions. There is a police escort and most everyone is well behaved. It is an awesome sight to see, lots of videos on youtube if interested.
Anyway a few years back the owner of a McLaren M8F (~800 HP and 1600#, do the math) Can-Am car allowed a mechanic to drive it in the parade. Said mechanic attempted a burnout and claims throttle stuck.
He went off the road and did big damage to a historic car. He had permission in this case but was ill-prepared for driving the car.
I suspect our OP(sounds like a pinhead)would also fall into the same ill-prepared category regarding the cars he went rodding around in.

Man, the authorities need know about this. I will forward this thread to Metro Dade and the BSO.
It will be a multi-jurestrictional task force.
Think of all the innocent people who's lives you put at risk.
You should be ashamed of your selfs.

unless it affects you personally, MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.
that's a great philosophy for life dude, well done :rolleyes
but seriously, most of us (key word most) are just trying to keep the op from getting into serious scheisse, that's all. we're not trying to babysit. ultimately his choice, but that doesn't mean i can't speak my mind to persuade him otherwise.
