NO! The wagon looks fine when compared to the GT. :( I'll be disappointed if that happens. Not that I was in the market for a tank/wagon but I'd rather look at a 5 series wagon than the 5 GT when driving around.

NO!!! I <3 wagons :)

I don't care for the look of the GT. Wagons are sexier.

They would probably only eliminate 5 series wagons in the States. I doubt they are going anywhere in Europe.

This.

People don't want wagons in the states (for whatever reason.)

Wagons look like half car half Chevy Camino (with top on rear deck)

WOW the E61 looks a lot better, and I would buy one any day over the fugly GT.

Or is BMW killing a car that doesnt sell for another car that wont sell.

I didn't know they sold 535i wagons in North America. :embarrasm

Sport wagons are for a niche market. Something BMW wan't to abandon.

Yeah, like it or not, crossovers are the new SUVs. Wagons haven't sold well here in the US for years. I live in NJ where you can close your eyes and hit a BMW with a rock. I hardly ever see a BMW wagon.

oh for god sakes, why doesnt bmw kill the entire m line next in favor of fast pick up trucks, seriously what are they thinking?

Correction: BMW might kill offering the Touring in the United States. It says so in the article.

"SPARTANBURG, South Carolina — BMW officials told Inside Line that the future of the 5 Series Wagon may be in jeopardy in the U.S. The wagon has never been a strong seller, with fewer than 400 sold this year so far. And with the introduction of the 2010 5 Series crossover imminent, BMW may cut out the wagon entirely to clear some space in the lineup..."

The rest of the world will still get the lovely and versatile Touring. I owned an E39 Touring with a 3-liter diesel motor and 5-speed manual transmission, and it's still the finest Bimmer I've owned.

The US is still the largest BMW market in the world. As such, it's in their best interest to build cars that will sell well here.

I think about Range Rovers and the Porsche Cayenne, two very capable offroad vehicles that are used here primarily as luxury cars - and status symbols. They are both way too much vehicle for the average American owner (as are a majority of the Bimmers people here own), but neither automaker cares about that - it's about making money.

Europeans love their Tourings. Go to Europe and you see wagons everywhere - and with more available options than we could ever dream of. I bought an 2001 E39 530d Touring through BMW Individual, and it was an incredible ride. It was hard to part with when I returned to the States. You should see the Volkswagen Passats over there with all the engine combinations that VW offers - ever hear of a W12?

Those are such versatile vehicles - I could haul a full-size sofa or armoire in mine with all the seats down, and it helped up bring back a lot of wine and olive oil from Toscana on our annual trip to the area near Partigliano.

And, yes - it had cupholders...

what a shame. When I grow up (I'm sure it'll happen eventually) I'll probably be looking for a 5er wagon to haul stuff.

That GT is nasty.

It will be a sad day if this happens...
Almost went with the 535xi Touring, but all the 09's left were decked out to the hilt and above my price range, and the dealer's weren't budging below MSRP for the 2010's yet.

I have to say I love the versatility of my E91 Touring and espcially the fact that it drives pretty much like a E90. Looks are all personal preference, but I actually find the modern sport wagons to be very nice looking, and most better than their sedan counterparts. Add in the AWD and they are the perfect all weather, kid-hauling, bike hauling, snowy-hill climbing, sport-sedan like driving anti SUV.

People always comment on why we have two wagons (E91 and Jetta TDI). Why not?? The BMW drives like a BMW and the VW drives like a VW. Can you bring home TWO twin mattresses, a Sam's club box of diapers, a Sams club box of pullups, a big gym bag, and some groceries all in the car with the hatch closed? The VW did this!! Nuff said.
