How do i know if a resonator is good or not?

If its a very, very obvious noise forgive me, mine is not broken

I have a rattle somewhere, can only hear it when car is idling
and its definitely from the exhaust

any thoughts?

its your res , or baffles in your muffler. us a long cylinder like pole and put it up to the object you think is making the sound. to confirm

Bimmers have dual wall tubing near the front, basically a smaller pipe inside a larger pipe to help keep the exhaust noise to a min. I've seen them break apart and they rattle against each other. Try jacking the car up and hitting the exhaust pipe with your hand to see if the pipe itself rattles, if it does you can drill a couple small holes through the outer pipe and weld the inner to the outer and reseal the hole. I had to do this on my dads 94 740 a few years back. I could be anything really but I thought I'd throw this out there.
