need part of my front door seal replaced. Was thinking of going to a junkyard and pulling out and cutting an old seal then splicing or grafting to replace the bad section in my car. What do you all think??
It woul save a bill for a new seal altogether.

good luck finding one that isn't cracked and broken. Rubber does that over the years

That's what you're supposed to do, graft a new piece under the door sill area to where you won't see it. Works like a charm, although it's hard to cut.

My question is how do you keep them from falling off!

We must be thinking of different things...I'm talking about the weatherstripping (rubber and then carpet, with metal wire in the inside)

You could certainly try it, I'd get one from a rear door since they are probably in good shape.

I would graft in as large a piece as possible, or the entire seal, and if you need to have an area with 2 cuts put them under the sill.

When installing make sure you really press them into the corners, and cut longer and cut twice if you need to so you ensure the ends are butted together to keep out air, moisture and dirt.

Let us know how it goes. I just replaced my drivers door with a new piece, then will use the old one to splice in short sections on the the other doors since they seem to shrink over time. Even the new peice was a little small, but I put the smaller area in the bottom front corner where you have to look to see it.
