so i replaced my brake pads on my e34 and the computer is still saying 'brake linings'. how can i get this to go away? i tried pumping the brake, turning the car on, turning it off, pumping again, etc; and ive also driven it. the notice is still there.

another problem i have is that there is a flashing "SRS" on my dash also. what does this mean and how can i fix it?

i searched and didnt find a thread like this. sorry if its a repeat

thanks

Have you started the car with the seat or the steering wheel removed? That could explain the SRS light

And the Brake linings is triggered by a bad sensor. Did you replace the wear sensor when you did the pads?

no, i actually stripped the wire a little bit and electro-taped it.

Is it flashing constantly or remains on and once and a while flashes? Usually the SRS light appears b/c the steering wheel has been removed and or problem with a SRS component. I would find someone or possibly an indy shop for free to use the SRS reset tool to see if that fixes your problem.

Also are you still having the "brake linings" message appear because that is caused by a bad sensor. If you cut it or some what accidently cut it the sensor will trigger the message and a new one has to be placed.

Hope that helps...

if there is a fault in the SRS system, even resetting the light does not help, because it will come back immy after resetting till the fault is repaired. Then the light has to be reset.
And to reset the SRS light you need a special tool, there is no trick like with the resetting of inspection/oil service.
If you want to buy such a tool, which also works on E34, E32, E30 etc., I have new ones

The Peake SRS reset tool works only from model year 1994 or 1995 according to their website

You need a new brake wear sensor. it pulls out of the break pad. 9 dollars or so at your local import part store. they cant be reused once the message appears. they are done-zo

SRS....Could be you unplugged the sensor while the car was in the on position. or if you have removed your seat with the car in the on position.

You're not understanding this. There is a fault somewhere in the SRS system. You use the code reader, which has been referred to as the reset tool, to find the fault. You cannot extinguish the SRS light until you fix all errors. Then you have to have the same tool and turn off the light.
