idk if thats what they're called.

basically, its the piece on the passenger side by the glovebox behind/under the dash that holds the 2 cables for the upper sliders.

well mine has a busted piece on it and i need to replace it. problem is the part number doesnt exist anywhere and realOEM doesnt even show the part.

here's a picture of it and kinda where it goes.

where my thumb is, there's supposed to be a piece sticking out towards the camera to hold a cable in place (like u see by my pinky)

part 2:

there's 2 differnt climate control assemblies aparently.

the one out of my 93 525iA has 3 cables to go along with the sliders.

the one in my 1990 535i/5 has 2 cables to go along with the upper sliders, and the lower slider appears to be electronic?

can anyone confirm this? and what else this difference entails as far as parts interchange on the above plastic actuator piece i'm trying to find?

Stepper motors.

Tischer BMW had them cheap (for what they are). Around $110 each and an E34 has ten of them.

EDIT: I didn't really see that pic. Have you taken off the climate control unit? Is it those three wire things that latch onto the sliders?

thats the climate control unit on the floor lower right corner of the pic.

as i said, the two upper sliders have cables. the lower slider (for the foot vents) is not cable driven, but electronic hooking up to some sort of stepper motor.

the piece i'm in need of is the piece in my hand in the pic, it screws into where my arrows are pointing, and the cable ends hook onto that so when u pull on the cable, its moves the levers.

Wouldn't a small screw with a couple of nuts (actually 3, one for holding it to the plastic piece and 2 for holding the cable in place) suffice as a "fix"? Measure the hole diameter (or eyeball it) and add the plastic thickness and lenght required for the cable. Now that I think about it, you might need two nuts on each side of the cable so they don't hold it in the same spot and can rotate freely, so make that 5 nuts. Just make sure that you have enough space in the back and the front for the fix.

there's not enough space for it. tried already. :(

yeah i was just about to reply to your PM.

if you can get it i'll take it.

i'd ask though that you get a picture of it so i can make sure its the same part. i've checked a few other models so far and they appear to be different. not sure if its a 535i specific part, or if its a 1990 specific part.

I know this is in bad taste, but those that know me know I don't care and mean no disrespect to the recently departed

seriously though, epoxy putty can fix a broken stepper motor mount better than anything. Been there.

its not the stepper motor mount. its the plastic piece that holds the cable in place. it gets more tension than a stepper mount. and its extremely skinny.
