BMW is just full of "meh" recently.. WOW they made a hatchback!!!
what happened to revolutionary ideas like the GINA concept?

I don't understand BMW anymore. Why on earth they would keep making NEW models when we're in a recession. They've come out with enough SUVish type cars already. X6 and 5 series GT are the ones that are truly unnecessary, now a 3 series GT?
GTFO. Give us the M1, at least you can find 2000 people in the world who will pay for a BMW supercar, and make money on it to boot.
I want to add that at this point its really getting ridiculous to the point where BMW is competing with itself. If a buyer wants to spend 40 grand on a BMW they will have this many options:
9 DIFFERENT ways to buy a BMW with around 40k, the biggest problem is that these cars are costing too much in an overcrowded market. How are they going to justify making all of these different cars, in different ways.
X1 - compact SUV
1 series - compact coupe
1 series - compact convertible
3 series - small sedan
3 series - small coupe
3 series - small touring
3 series - small touring with a smaller trunk than a touring but bigger than a sedan WTF?
3 series - small 4 seat convertible
Z4 - 2 seat roadster
The Germans have gone mad.

Truth. BMW already has way too many models, some of which are decidedly useless (5 GT, X6, this thing). They should make a small, ute-like pickup truck with an N54... or the N57 diesel. I'd frickin' buy it.

people want variance, so bmw produces it for them.
it's simple supply for demand. for you guys it's simple, but for new buyers of bmw's, they want more variance and choice to cater to their wants and desires. so bmw makes their effort to cater to those wants and desires in hopes of bringing new target audiences to buy bmw's.
it's not like the regular 3-series isn't for sale or anything. who cares what else they produce, as long as they still produce the regular model BMW's, then really there's no reason to bitch about the other models. product variance is ok to have people.
and as far as looks, well that's always dependant on each individual person. since 95% of you already own a bmw, you have grown to like the particular styling of your vehicle, hence anything else may seem not as good looking.
i'm not saying i think all of the new bmw's look awesome and that they are all peices of artwork or anything, there are some models that i think are abhorrent, but there are plenty of other people who think those same models are absolutley beautiful, somehow.
what i am saying is if there's a demand for something, it's only wise for a company to produce it, and further their growth.
that all being said, i'm not diggin the rear of that new hatch, looks like a shrunk F01 rear.

Too many models. End of story.
I feel that's one thing wrong with some automakers' line ups. There's just no connection between the buyer and the model anymore. They can't wish to own X model for 10 years and then finally buy it one day. They need more Corvette type of cars with a strong history. Not a new model every year.

While this is true, it's only fair to ask: who demanded a 3 GT? What niche does it corner, or what need does it fulfill that a standard 3 Touring or Sedan does not accomplish? It seems as if they are pumping out new models simply for the sake of doing it. BMW is becoming diluted.

oddly i bet there are alot of people who would love this car.
I can't understand why anyone would want a 6-series. to me they are fugly, the trunk looks like a tumor, the headlights look abhorrent, it's highly impractical, and has no point. but they sell pretty well and most people like them for some reason. so obviously it was smart for bmw to make it.
same thing with the GT. it may be ugly, unnecessary, impractical, whatever, but people will still probably buy it and there will be people who absolutely love it. some people are just crazy about hatches and don't want a station wag. :rolleyes
you have to understand there are people out there with money who just want to blow it on something silly like overpriced hatches. and bmw wants their buisness. :stickoutt

it'll probably be pretty popular in europe, so why not offer it here as well.. doesn't really cost them anything.
also, it's pretty much just a minor change compared to a regular sedan, so it isn't going to be terribly expensive to produce.. so why not just offer something else to the people who might want it? even if there aren't a ton of them... it's still a profit.
the bottom line is, unfortunately, this is the way car design is heading, and they need to stay competitive to stay on top of the market... if they made cars purely for entusiasts like us, they'd be out of business within a year.

BMW has 15 different models, and I'm counting 3 series sedan, 3 series coupe, 3 series vert etc seperate, but won't add M models into the mix or drivetrains. That is CURRENTLY, without the X1 and 5 Series GT, then add the 3 Series GT and you're up to 18 variable models.
Mercedes has 15 models and don't have any new models coming that that they don't already have, besides that, I think MB has too many models too.
And its unlikely that they will make another R class, so it'll end up dropping down to 14.

Utterly hideous. It's like it was drawn by a child. These "GT" cars are rivaling the Aztek for ugliness.

that thing is ugly as sin.
bmw needs to go back to their roots. any e30 owner has probably gotten the question "what year is that?" and suprised people telling them the car is twenty years old. people still like the look of the older bmw's. this shift towards the styling of asian cars is really upsetting. let the asians do asian. bmw needs to stick with bmw, not with hondatoyotalexuskia. and shrink down the disgustingly large kidneys while their at it.

I think they have a better opportunity of being successful with the GT's than they do with the new X1.
Either way these won't be high production cars. They will make them as demand sees fit.

There's people who love the ti, then there's people hate the ti.
For these GT cars I think people will just hate it.
I think it looks freakin ugly, they should've just kept it at the touring and not make this 5th variation...
might as well just call the 3erGT 5erGT and the x6 the same thing...
These cars just keep getting bigger and bigger
