I found a set of instructions on this forum for replacing the top and they mention a metal tack strip that comes already on the OEM tops that attaches to the sealing frame. The top I bought is aftermarket and doesnt have a metal tack strip. What do I do? Do I need to get one and attach it somehow?

Call the junk yards, they will have tops that don't work or are ripped up that you can salvage the piece from

As much as I love the car, $700+ is too much to pay for some cloth and a bit of metal. They'll only give me credit if I return it anyway, so I'm doing the best I can. I've been told I can reuse the metal tack strip from the old top.

I know you are trying to spend what you can and trying to save some money, but you will spend more in the long run.

If you don't plan on keeping the car longer than a couple years... Then so be it. Just do the next owner a favor and let him know he will have to be replacing the top soon after purchase....
