My warranty is close to ending for my 2007 M Coupe. Inspection II will be at 50600. Doesn't BMW have a "good faith" clause so it will be taken care of under warranty?

They will take care of it. I was told that you could bring the car into service between 500-1500 miles before the service indicator reaches zero. Before the CPO/maintenance plan expired on my xi this past March, all scheduled service was done with 1000 left on the service indicator.

I am curious if the Inspection II was done before your warranty (50K) ran out?

depends on the dealer. some take care of customers better than others.

It no the warranty ... it's the service/maintanence contract, but yes, they should do it for you. Talk to the dealer ... ask them, their answer is the only real answer that matters when it comes to this.

If they won't cover it, inquire how much the extended service costs... that may be better to purchase rather than purchasing inspection ii alone.

Just scheduled Level II with my dealer before my warranty runs out at the end of this week. Mileage is 21.2k with 1k miles to go on cars inspection clock. Dealer said it was not a problem.

Saying some dealers take better care of customers than others, would be implying that there is something wrong with the dealers that don't allow this to be done via good will (the dealer pays).

you can get your car serviced up to 2K miles early with most things.

You can not lengthen your maintenance plan after it expires. There may be aftermarket ones available, but not the BMW one.

If your plan is over, it's over. Don't get mad at the dealer if they decide not to good will it. They expire for a reason. If they just good will'ed everything after the expiration date by just a "little" then they would be flooded with people demanding a TON of stuff to be done. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry would be in there anytime something needed to be done for another 6 months and 10k miles.

it's just the way it is....

just play nice with the dealer and ask what they can do. And don't be a dick if they tell you they can't help you. They don't HAVE to....

Update to earlier post:

Went to the dealer today. First, my warranty was 47 months so it expired June 1. Then I found out it is Inspection 1 that I need, not 2. Finally, they could not take it with 1100 miles to go but assured they would honor it if I could get the car back soon. Now I am in the wonderful position of needing miles on the car and hoping that they keep their word when I do get to the level.

I am not complaining; the warranty is over fair and square, but the thought of paying $2k+ is not too appealing.

Will update when I go back.

Find out how much the extended maintanence is for your car, I'm willing to bet it will be around the same cost as Inspection I (or close). Plus, if you manage to get another oil service (or brake rotors/pads) during the time of the 2yr/100k maintanence extension, it will pay for itself.

To help burn off those miles faster... just keep the RPM up. Higher the RPM, the faster those miles till service burn away. When I had my E46 M3, it was asking for service every 5-6k miles, but that's because I drove it like I wanted to... fast and fun.

Went back to dealer where car was purchased and they will do Inspection ll under maintenance program even though computer shows that it will be slightly over 50k on the odometer. Pads and rotors I am hoping too......

Update: I (finally) had the Inspection I done 2 months after warranty expiry and they honored it. Still had 186 miles to go too. Major relief on that one!

Details:

Car: 2005 M3
Mileage: 21,910
Remaining: 186 (according to the key reader)
This was not the dealer I purchased the car from

Good luck to anyone else in a similar position!
