97 e39 cd changer woes

prefaced w/a search.

recently purchased e39 w/defunct cd changer. replaced cartridge because it was jamming. changer w/new cartridge worked fine for a day now it's back to doing the same thing. jamming cartridge w/'cd error' code displayed. is there a diy to replace a faulty mechanism or will this condition warrant a replacement? thanks in advance for any input.

I replaced my CD changer with an Ipod adapterfor just over 100.00 and it works great. This sends the CD player into forced obsolescence. i keep the unit (and my ipod) in the trunk and it has worked problem free for more then a year.
