Is this swap plug and play or do I need different axles? Its a 6-speed.

you need to use the 540s half shafts.... other than that its pretty strait for ward... dan has a full write up which if you use the SEARCH function on the forum tools you can find more information about it.... SEARCH its your friend... or else you will be flamed on...

Been there done that. You'll need the M5 diff and drive shaft. Replace the axle flanges with one from an e38 v8 diff.
