I saw that same recall/campaign notice shortly after buying my car, but put it out of my mind as I had no issues.
Recently I've been getting a slight slip or give in my driveline for a fraction of a second and have been racking my brain to figure out what it is. Now this weekend I notice a constant whirring sound from the rear.
I should probably make an appointment to have this checked out ASAP. Is there a VIN range affected? I've a '98 540 with a 12/97 production date.

I think that recall impacts a relatively small number of models. 1100 If I remember correctly. I asked my dealer and for whatever reason it didn't apply to my car. Call your dealership and give them your VIN, they can tell you if it has already been done or if it even needs to be done.

I just got off the phone with Sale BMW in Kinston. I gave them my VIN and the service manager said I'm fine. (6/98 production date)
