I just bought the Dynolicious app for the IPhone and seeing if anyone else uses it. My results aren't very accurate and could use some tips.
First Run:

Second Run (Hit a pothole...):

Third Run (Missed the shift from first to second..):

This was set for wheel horsepower. I was reading somewhere that you can get your peak HP in second gear, so I took it through first and second but stopped after second. I am trying to find out why my results seem so off, I guess the first run was the most accurate, but the 144whp is very low for a 328is. The car is all stock. Anyone use this program with accurate results?
Also went in my friends e30 325i with h&r springs and bilstein shocks, using the skidpad test.

Max Acceleration: .73g
Max Braking: .90g
Max Lateral: .89g
Does this seem accurate in any way?

All I can say is that these things have to be calibrated very carefully to turn out reasonable figures - the same also applies to the Cartest software and any other performance simulator/computer/estimator.

Have you used it and if so, could you give me tips on calibration?
Edit: I guess I am going calibrate carefully, and velcro my phone to somewhere flat in my car and retry. If anyone has other advice or results post them.

i have used it, pretty accurate, i measured 227 hp, i havent gotten a decent quarter mile run but i must say it was suprising how close it got

Damn that is pretty accurate. I think a 328is has around 170whp stock, so i'm trying to get around that point.

That may very well be the actual wheel horsepower number. Your car is 13 years old, so it won't be making anywhere near what the factory numbers are.

I don't think it would be down 30whp from when it was new..
It quite possibly could be. 13 years is a long time.

Considering driveline loss at 17%, 170 x .17 is 28.9. 28.9 + 144 = 172.9

The numbers I posted should already be wheel horsepower though. I re read the instructions on using the program and I am going to try to do another run after dinner. I will post results.

well how you place it makes all the difference, i took out my cup holders from my center console and it was a perfect fit, put it there and do it again, but 30 whp loss is possible for 13 years of abuse

On Top gear evo Challenge 6 years made a Renault Avantime go from 210hp to 157hp. 50 Horsepower loss in 6 years, 30hp in 13 years is more than possible.

+1 I've played with this as well, angle is important, or else it will measure acceleration as lateral G

Well a 30 wheel horsepower loss seems like a lot.. Plus you are comparing a real car to a completely different car in a video game..

Click on the graph on your phone, and it'll ask if you want to save it in normal res. or high res.
So I took my car out after dinner again, this time I calibrated the phone in the exact spot where it was going to be when I drove it. I also velcro'd it down so it was really tight.

Seems like I got accurate results, one was 157whp, and the other was 161whp. Does that sound about right?

try to dyno in the 1:1 gear ratio. What ever the BMW uses. Usually 4th. Like what you would on a real dyno. You would hit it ifrom a 30 or 40mph roll in 4th gear and pull up though 4th.

Yeah because you are supposed to launch very gradually to get the whp correct.

Most car companies base their hp ratings on bhp not whp. They don't specify which so it make sense to assume the former. Top Gear is a tv show, not a video game. The reason why I say evo challenge was because in that peticular episode they were challenged to make a car faster than an evo with a set budget.

Oh lol my bad, I've actually watched that show before, it's pretty good.
I posted the numbers when I did another two runs, and I think they are pretty damn accurate.

I'd say that is somewhat accurate. The numbers that are advertised for a car are crank hp most of the time, after drive train loss + wear and tear that seems about right.

I've heard great things about the program, never personally used it, I have "Rev", same basic principle. If I remember correctly you can compare your results with others, see if they get the same.

I might try actually doing a real launch and seeing what I can get 0-60 and quarter mile.. At this point I definitely think it was worth the 13$

If your car has 190hp stock. Then 190 - 15%loss = 161.5 Wheel HP. Pretty accurate.
