I have a 98 323 is and im doing the m3 midpipe, UUC Catback, and intake upgrade but i was wondering...

what intake should i get? I want something around 250-300 and the AFE i was looking at was 255 and the K & N was 280 so some suggestions please?? Or should i just buy a used Dinan??

Thanks,

With that price you are obviously talking about the whole intake system....Stick with stock and keep using paper filters; through in a K&N if you want though. That stock intake is designed VERY well; same one they use on the whole e36 l6 line pretty much; even the M3. Doing an intake will yield no increase in power.

With all that said though, I have been hearing that AFE tends to make the higher quality product out of the 3.

I have an AFE, very loud, quality is good although some people have to trim the heat shield. Yielded very little power increase if any.

Yeah, you won't notice a power increase unless you take it to a dyno. What you will notice, however, is the glorious induction bellow of BMW engines. I'm a sucker for very loud intake noises.

Also, the K&N oil soaked filters work real good on carbed race engines, but not so good on the MAF of a modern fuel injection system, due to oil fouling the sensor/hot wire if the filter isn't PERFECTLY oiled with the absolute minimum amount of oil.

try a debaffle of the stock intake first. there was definitely a sound difference.

Had a Cosmos V1 on my 325 for a while. I took it off and put the de-baffled stock back on. The car sounded better actually with the setup (I had high-flow cats into a System U) and I gained some low end. I sold the intake soon after that.

If I had to pick from the 2, I would get the AFE.

FWIW I have heard tale of the oil from K&N type filters fouling the Air Mass Sensor's heated filament. Not a good thing considering the cost of a new sensor. IIRC, once in a while the sensor does a super heat of the filament to burn off contaminents.. at which point it does a right proper job of baking the K&N oil onto the filament as a varnish lol. just food for thought.

I for one stick with nice OEM paper.

yeah im trying to avoid that i got the non oiled intake with the tap and vacuum accessory i hope that does the trick

Thats because people don't like to read directions. People tend to over oil them, at least from what I've seen. As long as you do what they say and it dries properly you'll be fine.

I still like the OEM paper one also. Just change it when your supposed to and your good.
