So i bought my 95 530i a little bit ago, but wasnt able to work on it till recently. I got the engine all fired up and it sounds great. Problem is it wont shift into gear at all (auto tranny) no noise or anything when i move the selecter into gear... and the tires spin freely no matter what position, wierd part when i first got it the tires would lock up when it was in park, it has not been driven at all (actually brought to my house on a trailer). The guy I bought it from said the was an aftermarket security system in it, that he removed. I dont know if that is the problem or what. I also just flushed the tranny oil and it looked good, and put new fluid in. Any help would be great, Thank you

Looks like you might need a new tranny.

Gear shift selector pin snapped in half. exact same thing happened to me, drop the oil pan and check it out. my car acted as if it was in neutral but wouldn't respond to gear shifting.

Your tires are supposed to be locked when in park. That's why they call it park.

You may also want to check the linkage.. Sounds like something may have disconnected and you are in neutral

I had something similar happen in my E28. The cable broke just before it connected to the transmission. Check that you cable moves by the tranny when the selector is moved inside the car.

Thats how it used to be... now it is all time neutral

Thank you guys for the feedback, ill check and see if any of the suggestions work, one last thing i forgot to mention in the first post tho is when i put it in to drive the engine sounds like its going into neutral, only gear they engine changes pitch at all. again thanks

after looking into it park now locks up the wheels as before it did not, putting it into drive drops the rpms about 200. Still no movement tho. I can't get the car up right now to drop the oil pan to check the pin.
