I know it was an option for M5s, but I'm just curious if anyone has ever seen a 540i with the extended leather option.....

extends to areas beyond the seats, like the dash.

Only complete leather cars have a leather dash/leather headliner, very rare, there are a few pics over on M5b courtesy of Gustav
Technically all US spec 540s have something like extended leather, as they have stitched leather door pulls, but they lack the glove box/center console. Never seen a US spec car with euro style extended leather, but there are a few CAN spec M5s with it.

that is common(for a 95 at least). what is rare is leather on the console, leather on the top of the door panel and the dash, upper and lower. I've seen one pic of a US spec e34 with a leather dash, it was a special ordered on an M5.
Leather on the door panels, console and dash a bit more common in europe, but still pretty rare.

Door pulls? As in the grip that you use to shut your door from the inside of the car?
My 1990 has leather door pulls if that is what we are speaking of.

I know we are talking about E34s here but my fathers E24 has the 'full leather package'. I knew you could get a leather glovebox and doorpulls on an M5 but I didnt know the dash was availible on the E34 as well.

Nice E24. Yeah, there are a few E24/E28 models in the US that could have extended or full leather equipment, but BMW got tired of replacing leather covered dashes 2-3 years out because of heat damage, this is why the E38 750 dash here is little more than stitching on vinyl.
As to the door pulls, the higher level models (535, 540, '95 non VP 525/530) got them with stitched leather, but the rest of the panel is vinyl, exception being '95 cars with the leather insert. Extended has leather on the entire door panel except for the top, and in the US it is only found on some canadian market M5s.

I wish I knew how easily Leather can get messed up.. Try spilling coffee or orange juice on carbon paper from a business form on the seat and then toss a map over it enabling you to forget and see what you get a few days later after peeling the stuck on carbon paper from your Parchment Dyed Leather Sport Seat.. I want to try the leatherique redye but I can barely find time to sleep never mind deal with that. Still I think the feel of at least the sport seats in Leather is second to none.

After poking around in realoem for a bit, I don't see the center armrest as an option anywhere. Was this custom? An e36 adapted in an e34? It looks like it's a bit longer than the e26 version...

Some car enthusiast groups go nuts over turbos, superchargers, performance chips...here...we go nuts over a proper centre arm-rest.
EDIT: Plus that neat looking phone holder bit on the gearknob surround, not making use of that space is such a waste.
