Has anyone heard of a rear diffuser for the E34? It is even feasible?
I've seen diffusers for some 3ers and E39's IIRC. Any way these can be retrofitted onto an E34?

Anything can be done - with enough time, money, fabrication knowledge, and money. And money helps.

While your at it you might as well make a Triple Decker Diffuser like all the F1 teams lol

yo linky no worky
nontheless I found it.
I say whats the point. Maybe Redfive could use one but most of the rest of us mortals are just driving a medium power 4 door sedan

Sure like its been said it can be done but unless its just for looks you need to have a full underbody system going on for it to be truly effective. The development effort to do something like this would be pretty intense and you would go through a few iterations before you got it remotely right. But it would be neat if someone took this on as a pet project, so I say go for it!

try finding a rear diffuser already made as a guide and to help with a mock up. then you need to build your own home mad wind tunnel.... so you get a HUGE tube, marry a blond that smokes heavily and get her to talk and smoke at the same time and your set. oh and a video camera lol

Well if I do go through with this project, it won't be anything intense. I might have to make a front diffuser as well to go along with it. I don't expect to gain much from it, it would just be something to differentiate my E34 from everyone else's. I've always been infatuated with carbon rear diffusers with fins, but I don't plan anything crazy. Maybe fiberglass construction with a layer of CF on top. It might have to avoid the exhaust system, and it will have to transition smoothly with the rear bumper to maintain the clean lines of the car.
I was also thinking about incorporating vortex generators underneath the car.
If you've ever seen Evo 9/10s, you might notice the small deltas on the end of the roofline. These small protrusions help lower aero cd and make the car more stable.
And to address the wind tunnel jokes, I'd have to do it poor-man style. High speed cameras and wool-tufting.

my buddies race team uses balsa wood, a thin layer of aluminum, and a thin layer of carbon fiber to make their own splitters, and diffusers. It's pretty easy once you get it mocked up, but making the board (aluminum/balsa/carbon, aluminum on the bottom) is about the hardest part. Making templates out of cardboard and test fitting is fun actually. But cutting carbon fiber is a bitch.
