But they said they can't install it on my 1993 BMW 525i because the door locks are vacuum and not electronic...
What the hell does that mean?
The guy at the store didn't even know what that meant?

The installer's at Worst Buy are R-tards go to a reputable shop and have it done you'll thank yourself later by not having a hack job done.

Obviously the installer has never done a keyless entry on a BMW. Even vacuum door locks are be integrated into any standard keyless entry. They do not know what they are doing and are afraid to try on your car, thus the rejection. You are better off taking it to a indy stereo shop.
BTW, Best Buy hires installers with no experience required. Many gain experience by learning on customer cars.

Yup. Gotta watch out for those Circuit City R-tards too! They couldn't figure out how to install a sub in a box.

Uh, I don't think they're going to be such a threat these days. :rolleyes

prpbably the "best" thing that could have happened to you. Just imagine if they had actually tried to install it.

You lucked out by them sending you away, otherwise you'd have a car with a screwed up electrical system. My friend purchased a deck "installed" at Best Buy. They installed it in the dash, connected power and told him he needed new speakers because the stock Toyota speakers wouldn't work with the deck. No joke, they told him stock 95 Toyota speakers wouldn't work and sent him out the door after he didn't buy new ones. I had them hooked up and working in 10 min, then was on the phone with the store manager. The manager told me "they might be working but they aren't working they way they should", finally he agreed to refund the installation money. Go to a reputable stereo/alarm shop and have it done right.

best buy blows at installs. my old 5er had a kenwood install done by best buy, that was a true PITA to reinstall a newer upgraded kenwood.

LOL...a 93 is a prewire.
I installed my own alarm.
<$100 total and better than anything bestbuy will sell you 'installed' for under $350.

I work at BBY in Little, AR and we have awesome installers...
btw I've been told that most BBYs will turn every BMW owner away when it comes to speakers and such. The only thing the BBYs around us will do to a BMW is a headunit install. So yes, MOST Bestbuys do not have excellent installers, and are afraid of the name BMW. However, don't be afraid to try a different bestbuy if they recommended you taking it to a different one like they were suppose to. We get customers that come 40+ miles just b/c the BBY around them couldn't do it and such. BTW if anyone ever gets a Headunit install at BBY do not purchase the headunit install kits that they sell, hugely overpriced... it commonly costs customers 60 bucks for antena adapter, dash kit, and wiring adapter... yikes!
EDIT: I do have a question also. I was thinking about a viper alarm system since my alarm crapped out. No I'm not paying them to install it. What if I could buy a viper alarm system and splice wires so I wouldn't have to re-wire w/ viper's wires. Is that possible b/c I've already seen the plugs are different...

I would bet money they are to afraid to touch a BMW because they know if they screw something up, a BMW is not cheap to fix.
