View Full Version : Should the intake manifold smell like gasoline
I took my throttle body and CIA piping so clean my EVC valve that located behind the throttle body area.
For no particular reason I stuck my nose inside the intake hole of the smelled a light gas odor.
Should me intake manifold smell like gas?

yes, think about it. What is inserted into the intake mani? They are colorful, squirt gas...
I hope so, My garage is smelling like gasoline every morning when I walk into it.
I checked all the lines, they are good, I have no idea what it can be..

Well that may be signs of another problem altogether with your car, or something in your garage. Take the car to a mechanic and have him look at it. you don't want to play with gas vapors. they can seep into your house. pilot lights such as for hot water heaters or regrigerators can cause explosions. I know because my neighbor killed himself swapping a motor in his garage this way. Deal with this asap. Start by not parking in the garage at night and seeing if there is still a gas odor. Good Luck.

You may have a leaky injector. Smell your engine oil too - it may be diluted with fuel.
Like speedcrazy1532 says, it could be a dangerous situation - so park it outside til it gets figured out.
Sniff around the whole car when it's outside - it may help to find possible external fuel leaks/fumes.
My daughters 95 325i was leaking fumes from the top of the tank, especially after a fill up (the plastic was cracked on the level sending unit top).

vacuum line to the vapor recovery canister could also be busted... that's where the gas tank's fumes are vented to

Excellent point, definately a much easier resolve than the other mentions.

Yup, check all of the above. If it's leaking it's costing you money anyway.
Yea I stopped parking it inside, its nothing in the garage, ive been keeping an eye on it. your right about the explosion thing tho :-|..
I just hope it doesnt cost me much to fix the issue, and I think i am loosing a little bit of gas every night, that why my fuel mileage sucks lol
