I have enough money to make it through step, however once I finish i will only have a few hundred dollars left, so I will be looking to get a job so I can at least have a couple grand left over for the first few weeks after school.

How easy was it to find a part time Job while you were at step? Also, what kind of hours did you work and did it ever interfere with STEP. How were your managers coping with the idea of STEP first, then work?

We were also told by UTI when I graduated that STEP was not considered school, and because of that, we'd have to start paying our school loans the same 6 months out of UTI, instead of 6 months out of STEP. Is there any way around this?

I thought BMW sent you to step and paid for it? :dunno

Try to get a dealer to pay for you

they pay for your schooling, not your life.

OP, as for the student loans, i didn't have any.. but i think a few of my classmates were successful in requesting an extension because of STEP, you can look into that.

for jobs, i didn't work for the first 3 months, but then decided to get a job at a local auto parts store. i worked maybe 20 hours a week, so it wasn't crazy, and when it wasn't busy.. the manager was cool with me studying and doing homework, so it worked out well.

also, something to look into.. at least at the Avondale campus, UTI would hire a couple STEP students as teachers aids and mentors to help out around the classrooms, i think they made like $10/hr, and obviously the teachers were cool with any obligation they had with STEP. i didn't get that job because i didn't go to UTI... so they wouldn't hire me.

They pay for the school yes, but Not for housing and living expenses, thats all up to you, and one of the challenges of STEP.

Ohh my bad I read it wrong, I thought you meant you had enough money to pay for STEP with only a few hundred left after paying for the school. I would just get a part time job since as far as I know you need to put STEP before everything.

In the same situation your talking about. I am working at subway about 45 hours a week. Its a hell of alot but I dont have any financial back-up from my parents like most. I had enough saving to get through the first two months then knew I was going to have to work to get by. Also need a biut for the move afterwards to whatever dealership you go to. Also remember that most dealers offer a $1000 moving assistance. Also you can get a "personal deferment" or an "unemployed deferment" through your loans. I know its possible through sallie mae. Most guys arent working in my class; most live off their parents but a few saved accordingly for STEP. Good luck with whatever you do. Cheers,
Erick

Yeah, i know what you mean. My parents can't help me at all, there about $500 under a month as it is. The money I have is saved up and extra that i've had from school loans.

Man, 45 hours a week is insane, plus step, I give you props for that.

And I will ask about the teachers assistance, that sounds like it could be a good thing to get into, decent money, plus I wouldn't really have to go anywhere besides school hah.

Yeah we had them at UTI in Rancho as well. Their job was wayyy kick back. They tutored during lunch and just hung out in the class with us. During lab they would help out and anwer questions and stuff. Really nice guys over there. One was going to VW and another just getting extra $.
-You can also get a $1000 relocation loan in addition to what you already have. I got approved for mine suprisingly easy. Good Luck,
-Erick

yea, all the guys in my class that did the teachers aid thing had it so easy. some days they would just clock in, do homework, have dinner, then clock out... it was ridiculous.

Hahaha that sounds like the way to go. I don't know how it will work now though, since its not at UTI anymore, its at the actual Training Center. Maybe if they have fast track at night I could help with those.

are you at UTI in rancho now? You will be going to the training center off milliken correct? Just curious I used to live in the area.

The training center is at 1175 S. Dupont Ave. in Ontario.

I finished UTI Sacramento in April, and will be moving down to Rancho August 1st.

Anyone know about the general price range for an ampartment or room for rent around the Ontario, CA campus.

Through the UTI housing is 540 a month, no matter if you have 4 people in a room or 2 people in a room. That's 540 a month for housing with utilities included, Not bad if you can get in a room with like two people.

My buddy just got out of the rancho campus for VW. He hated the apartments. Just thought i would throw it out there.
