TRANS PROGRAM on the computer dashboard comes on!

hi there, i have a 1991 525i bmw. and recently it has been showing the "TRANS PROGRAM" sign on my little computer in the dashboard. Does anyone know what this is about? It wont let me go directly into drive, instead i have to start off at gear 2. Gear 3 runs fine too. The cars speed is the same and all, it just accelerates slowly because it can only start in gear 2. Does anyone know what this is about and why it is doing that? Anyone experience this before? Besides the trans program thing, the car seems to run absolutely fine. No weird sounds, doesn't break down or anything. Please please let me know, thanks

it could be many things i have the same problem only if i put my auto in 3rd and rev a bit, i looked up and it could be a handful of things google it, easy fixes but it culd be the tranny, look up possibilities before doing anything drastic.

what's happening is your car is going into limp mode since the car is sensing something is not right with your tranny.

i suggest getting your tranny checked out.

when this happened to me, my tranny went bad. tech opened up the pan and it wasn't pretty.

however, my bmw tech friend told me sometimes the problem is that you just have a bad sensor.
