View Full Version : Has your BMW influenced your neighbors to buy one?

Just wondering if anybody's interest in BMW's or cars has swayed your neighbors or friends into buying one?

Personally, I daily an e30 and have a 635, Bavaria, and 318is all sitting around too. My father has always been into cars and drives BMW's too. Therefore, we have a mass of cars sitting around my house, the most of which are BMWs. This has caused all of my neighbors to ask questions or make comments about them from time to time... I let one of my neighbors drive a few newer BMW's (I used to work at a dealership) and he ended up buying one... That started it... His family all got into Bimmers... Then the lady they share a duplex with bought a z3...

I guess the other neighbors felt left out seeing us having so much fun drive our bimmers:cool:cool

Another neighbor bought a z4 and another bought a 328I!

Therefore, in 5 houses all centered right around each other we have 9 BMWS!!

Nope, my interest hasn't made anyone want one.

Nope...I come from a town where the average price of cars in the driveway equal 100k+....so bmw's are kinda run of the mill. Most driveways where I come from have s classes, 911s, maseratis, etc...I wish they were that infectious around here...I'd feel more akin to some of my fellow neighborhood drivers...lol...

my moms side of the family has always been into bmw's, so that made her want one, then i eventually wanted one also. A few of my neighbors now want one. The people next to us are really into saabs and volvos however.

Not necessarily my neighbors, but my girlfriends mom. She is still searching for an e30 for her son to drive and she actually bought a e60 5 series a year ago.

My Dad won't buy new cars... He's loyal to the old bimmers... He also has a 1952 Riley RMF (Its the car in my avatar) I learned a lot on that old boi...

My Mom had to go the dark route and he bought her car new... We had to wait like 10 months when we ordered it... She should have got a BMW...

Last year my father was looking into getting a vert that he could use every day in the summer since he only has a classic car for the summer but did not want to drive that every day. So my father got interested in BMW's and check one out for himself since I have owned one at the time. We took a few out for test drives and he did buy one. During this winter he found himself driving his E46 330 vert more then his Buick because it was more enjoyable. When I got my 540 and he was riding in it and started to liked the 5 so much that a few months later he traded in the buick and got a E60 530xi. So now he has two BMW's.

There is also a family history somewhat linked to my car. When I was in grade school, my parents drives a 2 door 3 series (back in 1986). It wasn't until recently my dad found the service manual of that car. My mom said that BMW is one of the best cars she has driven. Hahaha

I used to always ride around with my friend in his '96 328i vert. Let me drive it a few times, I loved the pick up, suspension, and the class. I knew I wanted a 5 speed, and liked the look of the M3 better so I decided to pick one up.

No, everyone I know just makes comments like "Your car is sweet", "I was gonna get one but it was too expensive", and my favorite "One day I'll get a BMW too"

However, me and my buddy les, without evening knowing about each others purchases, actually bought our BMWs 1 day apart. (my E46 323i, his E36 328i vert)

Well if it's an early 90s Elantra and it isn't an automatic and has the 5-sp, it is essentially a mitsubishi mirage with a 4G6 in it, they are pretty quick and very light. You can swap in a 4G63 turbo into it and have that thing haul ass like crazy, same thing with the Kia Sephia. So it does have potential to be up there with the best cars ever, but only for performance reasons. I used to hang with a bunch of DSM guys and they would take these, colts, sephias, anything that had a mitsu platform and 4G6 Turbo them all around town, they're crazy but crazy fast.

4G63 with good boost in Very light car = Batshit fast.

However it has absolutely no finesse to it and sucks at anything besides a straight line, but nonetheless fast.

My neighborhood isn't too bad. I'm from Lowell, MA but I live in one of the nicer areas in the city. The taxes aren't bad in Lowell for MA... Housing prices haven't been bad either... However, just up the road from me the houses get very expensive but them drop off into the downtown area...

That is sux. My story is different, all my friends drive / want German cars, and many neighbors ride BMW's. One dude has two 740Li. One is black from E60's and another white E38 (best 7 series body style in my opinion). They both look so sharp and clean that I can't take my eyes off them when walking by. :eyecrazy

Tell your stupid neighbors that this is free country, and you can ride any car of your choice. Also add that American cars simply suck, that's why no body buys them..

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but something just happened that I had to post ITT.

So about a week and a half ago, a neighbor moves in. He's in his mid-late 20s and we've been talking, hanging out a little bit. He never sees what I drive and it didn't really come up.

He sees me coming back from the store Monday night and is immediately like "THAT IS A SWEET RIDE! I DIDN'T KNOW YOU DROVE THAT!" and all kinds of stuff about it. I'm like, ya it's nice, I like it, etc. And then proceed to take my groceries back to my apartment.

So Tuesday night I notice a silver E38 in the parking lot that hasn't been there before, I check it out but don't pay too much attention to it do to the area I live in they are pretty common.

I see it again yesterday as I'm coming back home Wednesday night, it pulls in right behind me, and guess who gets out? THE NEIGHBOR!

He was driving this old POS Plymouth Acclaim until he saw me driving my E46, so he went out the day after that and traded in his Plymouth for a E38 :rofl

I guess my E46 is so clean looking that it makes people want to go buy a bimmer :buttrock

My dad had an e30 325 when I was young, followed by an e34 540i. I was hooked on them.

Thereafter I managed to convince my uncle, cousin, mom, and dad to get back into bimmers.

Now we have 2 X5's, 3 X3's, an e39 M5, e63 M6, and e36/8 m coupe in the between my dad and his brother's families.

What REALLY got the ball rolling was convincing my uncle to do the M5. Thereafter, I showed him the M6, and he sold his m5 to his son. As per my profile, the m coupe is mine.

Agreed, I <3 to see those kinda cars, I will turn down the music, open the windows, and listen to the beautiful symphony it provides.

I also tend to do that when I am passing nicer cars that obviously belong to enthusiasts, kinda like a Hello.

Yes actually. I got my e36 m3 because a friend of mine had a beater 328 and i saw how nice they COULD look. So i got mine, then my best friend saw how nice mine was and got a e46 330i w/sports package... then another mutual friend picked up a 2000 535 w/sports package. Now when we go anywhere it looks like a damn BMW commercial.

I was always a mustang person, one was a dsm guy, and another a honda guy. We all hated and kinda poked fun at eachothers previous "fun cars" but we all love eachothers cars now. I pretty much decided its so contaigous because everyone likes a bimmer. A clean bimmer, no matter what the yr, demands respect!

There's a guy three doors down from me with a yellow F430 in his garage. Trouble is, he's a pompous wazzock. The tosser won't even let anyone listen to it - I saw it idling in his driveway once while on a walk, and said "nice car" and he just stared at me and went back to his nonsense.

LOL

Everyone around me owns either Japanese cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, or combinations of the three.

I have an E36 328ic and a Volvo V70 in my garage, and some guy swears I must be of a certain political persuasion because of that. I thought that when children became adults, they left that kind of stuff alone. I asked him how many American auto workers he put on the street because of his taste for cars made by Asian automakers. The conversation ended at that point.
