My first car is 2009 BMW 323i. After being to many dealerships and most of the being an ass to me not knowing that I can fully pay for the car in cash, I made my local dealership a deal they couldn't refuse and drove out with new 323i.
It's auto with steptronic (yes steptronic is great to speed up!!), black on black with premium package. Some of you would say you should've gotten it in manual. Well, I would have but I also ride a motorcycle so that would make too much of my life manual:)
One thing that bugs me about BMW dealerships is that they think too much of themselves. But after I signed they papers, they begged me to rate them very high on a survey that BMW will send out. I can't wait to share my first car purchase experience.
BMW dealership is somewhat like Harry Rosen's: after you buy something the sales person start dancing and oh man do they ever look ***!!! After going to few Harry Rosen stores, I never went back. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back to BMW to buy a new car. May be if I'm get rich I'll just order one over the web and have it deliver to me. I just don't like the *** people that work there period.
Audi, Lexus, Toyota, all were much nicer but I didn't buy their cars.
Anyway, 323i can get me in lots of trouble: I drive with pace but not haste.
I'll post pictures shoon!!!
Oh, on complain: I can't stand the smell of leather!!! Anyone recommands some conditioner or something that'd make the car smell better?? It's summer and leather stinks .

Just keep the windows open and watch the language please.

Sorry about the language! You can tell my first purchase was hell. I never expected it to be this hard. It's like some dealerships don't want to sell cars to young people. I'm 26, perhaps if I was 46 it would've been different.
I'll keep the windows open. But then I'll have to fight the dust. Sounds like that would create a different problem :).

26! And they still treated you like that??
That's ridiculous! I was 20 when I started shopping for mine and I felt they were a little ageist even after I ordered the car!
But at 26, they should have treated you with more respect.

Haha, move to CA. You can be 18 and walk into a Lambo dealer and they'll treat you well because around here... you never know... :D

Congrats on the new car, but if the Audi, Lexus, and Toyota were nicer cars why didn't you buy one of them?

I look younger, that's what people say. So probably they thought I was 21 or even less.

Maybe they treated you less because you come off poorly, just a guess.

No, it seems to be the rich stereotype - being arrogant, cocky and less friendly. I see it all the time say at Harry Rosen and such places. I guess I don't like that stereotype :)

It has nothing to do with age, some salespeople are just not very friendly and are arrogant. Happens in all dealerships but more so with the higher end brands.

I got shit at dealers in CA when I moved out here because I had a NEON, they talked to me and then asked me what I drove and then "disappeared". I bought an A4 after a Neon..apparently they don't like NEONS. :)

I don't think it has anything to do with age. Certain dealers just don't have smart salespeople. I'm 26, went to the dealer last weekend in jeans and a t-shirt, needed a shave too. And they were friendly.

Yep. In fact, I make it a point to look "average" on my first visit. If they don't treat me like sh*t, then I'll go back when I'm ready to make a purchase.
When I bought my Supra I was 30 years old and the first two Toyota dealerships gave me nothing but grief. The third one treated me right and after the sale, I went back every year or two to say "hi" to the salesman and let him take pictures of the car. (I had it repainted a bright blue with a silver racing stripe. ;)) I'm not sure if he was joking (I think he wasn't) but he used to ask me to park it so it was visible from the street when I stopped by. :)

Congrats!
I agree, some dealers are just douches. Some are great. My local dealer is lame. I have NEVER bought a car where the dealer was better versed than I was on features and options. That, and typically I have been treated poorly unless well dressed. My problem is I am a nice polite person who expects people to return the treatment. Most salesmen are *** with one mantra: "there is an a**hole for every seat." I have since switched to overdressing and acting like arrogant prat. Surprising thing is, I get looked after much better... Go figure.
Again, enjoy the BMW!!

Congrats on your new car. Have to agree with the other posters, dealers really vary a lot. I think they also must have some sort of metric on how many warranty repairs they do. I've found that taking the car to a dealer other than my usual one they generally don't want to help with warranty repairs.

Last year I visited dealer where they selling things like Porsche, Maserati, Lambos, Bentley and other goodies. I was walking around for hours looking at the cars, taking pictures, reading prices :eyecrazy, and even touching them (when they wasn't looking lol). I even went on their private parking lot (not for show) and walked around for awhile there. Never got crap from them, seemed like they was totally okay watching me doing it.
Some sales people rocks and some sucks; age is just a number.
