I am considering the purchase of some 17 x 8.5 SSR Comps (I was told aren't made any more) which the current owner purchased from Tire Rack back in '02. I've read that SSR Comp had at least three versions of the Comps: Standard, Type H, and CRS. The latter two types were reinforced. The standard type was reportedly not strong enough and there were numorous complaints of bending, particularly on the wider wheel sizes.

Can someone from Tire Rack confirm when the production dates of the various SSR Comps that are out there?

Any clue as to what was being sold in '02?

Should I even be looking at wheels that have been tracked for six years?

Thanks.

Those would be the original ssr type c, sold as "competition" by tirerack.

Yes, they are less durable than the newer 2 piece ssr comps (h/rs) but on the upside they are probably about 1 ibs lighter each.
