Picked up my latest addition to the stable: 2001 BMW M5. 35k miles. Flew to Atlanta for the exchange and am now on a 1 1/2 week road trip back to Denver which includes nearly a week stay to yacht and relax with my father in Venice, FL and my first of two wedding showers in Tyler, Texas at the in-law's ranch. From Texas I will trailer the M5 back to Denver with dad #2's 07 Escalade.

Funny the M5 and Escalade both have 400hp V8s (albeit worldly different build and application).

I was originally going to replace my G37 with this car as the G37 is not powerful enough to be my 'fast' car and is far too small to be my daily driver. Because of this, I've only put 16k miles on the G37 in 20 months (including 6k miles in two jaunts to AZ/CA). I contracted for 15,000 miles a year on the 39 month lease, so I still have literally almost an impossible amount of miles left and only 19 months on the lease -- a good deal for someone else who will actually drive the car. I've since learned the G37 lease (through Infiniti Financial) unfortunately would leave my name (and thus liability) on the contract even if someone else assumed it (through swapalease.com or leasetrader.com, etc), so I have little-to-no interest in doing that now... The payments aren't killing me, but it would have been nice to get rid of them for a car that isn't being driven.

Pics: see my sig link (can't post pics or links yet)

In researching the Dinan badge, I've learned they are only (officially) given to BMW owners who have purchased a set amount of mods/upgrades from them based on a point system -- the cost and/or power increase of the mod affects the number of points it has towards getting the badge. As far as I can tell this car only has the Dinan euro-style front lower bumper brake ducting, so not sure why it as the badge. A tad ricer, I suppose, but at least it has something Dinan.

Why trailer the car from Texas to Denver? I think it'd be more fun to drive the car itself on that last leg of the trip. :buttrock

And congrats on the purchase. What color/interior is it?

Very nice!

Too bad on the lease.

The Dinan badge can be bought off eBay.

Very nice! When I bought my 540, I flew to New York to meet a friend, we drove to Pennsylvania to pick up my wheels, then drove to indiana to pick up the 540 and then drove it back home to southern cali. 3150 total miles, 5 days. No better way to get to know your new car :)

Me too... Had 2 98' Trans Am's. No WS-6 though :(. Great car and motor. Easy to work on and modify.

Then, i drove a BMW and realized that its nice to not make alot of noise while driving.

I still miss the T-Tops though.

Nice M5 bro.

I would own both, completely different machines. I ran my LS1 Z28 with no mufflers. So that thing was the ultimate stress reliever. After a bad day, I would go rip it up and shred the tires and make noise. Loved that car. Would buy another. :D

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Interesting to see other previous LS1 owners on here! The M5 made me immediately miss having a V8 the last few years in just my first few minutes in it. I absolutely love it -- perfect daily driver for me.

I added more pics, including the front of the car and engine bay. See link in sig once again.

Cheers

you have to change one of the roundels on the car... the rear is cf, but the front and wheels are oem... car looks great!

how do you like the g73's nav interface?

Yeah, having one roundel different is kinda strange.

The G37 nav is great; very user friendly and far ahead of its time when it came out almost 2 years ago! I honestly can't stand the fact that it is literally 95% unusable while the vehicle is in motion, though... makes it pretty worthless for me. There's ways around it but it's hundreds of dollars and a bit too involved for a leased vehicle. Oh well.

Doing a navigation bypass is usually very easy, but shops charge tons for it.

I'd change the roundels too, but otherwise the car looks great. I'm sure you'll enjoy the hell out of it.
