Limp Mode

Ive seen this in here before were the limp mode light comes on and you lose 1st gear and if you turn off the engine and restart it goes away. Now i have done all the suggestions like change the oil, the filter and check the level but that did not work. Heres the funny part, i replaced the front bearing in the alternater and after a few days i noticed that the limp mode had stopped coming on. Not connecting it to the alternater being off and put back on i was just happy that it had gone away. Now a year later the limp mode has come back on. So after thinking about it a bit, i decided to tighten the alternater belt and after 2 days the limp mode stopped coming on. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a reason for it.
