During my recent road trip are my obersvations with the in-built navi

1) I was going on a freeway and it asked me to take an exit, i took it thinking it was taking me to another route because of traffic avoidance but it was circling over the same route couple of times before ending me in a one way road :eyecrazy

2) Was searching for restaurants in Points of Interest and was looking for chinese restaurants and it took me to 4 restaurants but none of them existed.

3) On my way back when i mapped it to my home address it have an error saying that "unable to map the route" for some reason and it started working after 10 mins.

I have a 09 coupe and think have the latest software.

Overall i am not happy with the navi and little dissapointed.

Can navi owners please share their experience and i am little concerned with point 3 , dont want to be stranded at one place when i need it. Does anyone know why i got the message.

Overall the car ran great and very happy with it

Thanks

Unless you're constantly on the road in unfamiliar territory, I believe purchasing a Garmin Nuvi for a fraction of the price and getting up to date maps is far better than any (Acura, Lexus, BMW, etc.) in dash system, IMHO.

I have the "old" iDrive and it has generally served me well. No nav system is flawless.

When mine plots a strange route I just have it recompute it by changing it to "fast route" or "route with highways".

Has anyone encountered the "unable to map the route" issue

I understand that no Nav system is flawless but having used a portable Garmin GPS for 4 yrs , its much better than the inbuilt navi in the BMW.

Paying 2k for a GPS i expect it to work much better

Don't, it never will. Price has nothing to do with quality when it comes to built in systems. You probably encountered a software bug don't sweat it too much.

I have had mine for about 1 month and use it often for work. I haven't encountered any "unable to map the route issue." Mine routes quickly and usually works as well as my Garmin and then my Mobile Garmin on my cell. I do find the "maps" to be a little outdated when compared to my Garmin/Garmin Mobile. Also, the points of interest seem a bit outdated as well. What's weird is that I was searching for a restaurant that has been in the same location for at least the last 10 years and yet it did not appear anywhere in the points of interest either by name or category. So, overall, I'd like it to work better. However, the navigation, as a whole is on par with the mobile units and so I'm satisfied with it. I just hope that I can update it easily when it comes to it. Does anyone know how to check if you have the latest version?

The "unable to map route" issue pops up on Google maps online occasionally... it's probably an issue with the way it calculates the routes on the new nav.
