Ok, riddle me this one - in my son's 94 325 is we put a new (used) bumper cover on and bought some aftermarket fog lights on eBay. They have two tabs that fit into the housing on one side and a spring-type clip on the other that snaps in. When in, I can yank and pull on them and nothing happens, but on the road they just fall out in pretty short order.

Is there some sort of other retaining mechanism that we're missing here? The replacement bumper had no hardware with it, so I'm not sure if there is supposed to be more than this pins and clip system.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

My felt fog light fell out while driving the other day and dragged on the road for like 500 yards before i realized... but i have an original 328i bumper that has never been replaced so im not sure about your bumper. but i did take white electrical tape( to match the white bumper) and wrap it around the sides of the entire light to make it have a tighter fit and it hasnt fallen out again.

Thanks. Hard to believe that it's necessary on something that should clip in securely, but I'll give it a go on the next set!

From my experience, if the clips get bent or become weak the fogs will fall out easily. I went with the tape trick and it worked fine for quite a while.
It seems like it didn't take much to warrent the clips useless.

Probably need new fog light mounts.

Well, that is the part that confuses me. These were lights with new mounting brackets included that we bolted into the new bumper, so one would figure they would work together properly. But...

We'll try again.

Thanks

this is what you do, if you look there is a piece of spring steel that pushes the holder firmly into the slot, bend that slightly so it puts more pressure on the little arm that locks into place. Look around at the brackets and you will see what I mean.

Falling out i have never experienced. But my fog lights are aftermarket and one of the brackets are as well. So i have to use extreme force just to get them to lock in. Real pain in the butt.

I have come to find 9 times out of 10 unless its all OEM they have trouble in one way or another.

You're missing the zip ties.

The driver side fog light on mine just popped out after being in there for a year. It hit the pavement and seriously messed up the lens...no cracks just a lot of scratches. I had to bend the metal spring thing as described above and remove and reinstall the adjustment screw on the bracket, but it's held since. That's been about a month now

Zip ties will work good on these..

I used zip ties to put my HIDs underneath my bumper

Where are you suppose to put the zip ties LOL? That makes no sense .. Zip tie the bracket to the bumper? Or Zip tie the light + bracket to bumper??

I just put a few drops of crazy glue on the plastics tabs, that holds thme in great and I can still pop them out if I need to, just takes a lot more muscle to do it.

Mine always clipped in securely, but were loose on the side with the tabs on the top & bottom. My fix was to screw stainless scres into the center of the tabs to extend the tabs & secure a tighter fit. I've got 4 months on them & NO issues. That includes driving 100 mile commute a day.

I want to avoid screws, it is plastic, so once you "BOSS" it, it'll be permanantly fu**'d --- So where exactly do the ZIP ties goo??

Also, my BRACKET doesnt even fit properly into my front bumper,, what do I do is??? HELPZ
