Ok so here is my story, I had a bad engine that I switched out for another.
Put everything back together, hooked up all my connectors, and now the thing wont turn over.

The starter is brand new and tested so that's not it. Battery is fully charged so that's not it, all my lights come on when I put the key to the on position, but nothing happens when I turn it to start.

No clicking noise coming from the starter or anything. Where is the starter relay?

I did not bleed my clutch yet but I did push the pedal all the way down, would that effect anything? Does it use some kind of clutch pressure sensor?????

HELP!!!!

I'm pretty sure the clutch has nothing to do with it, you can start an E36 without touching the clutch. I would definitely check the relay/starter solenoid, I know I was asked to replaced a friends starter (because they told me it was bad) but come to find out it was just the solenoid that was messed up.. cheaper fix too. I don't know exactly where it is on the E36.

p.s. does your car "click" when it tries to start or just nothing at all.. if it clicks you can be pretty sure the solenoid isn't getting sufficient current through it from the battery.

Try bypassing the starter really by taking a screw driver to the starter. you cross the main power lug and the solenoid lug at the starter to engage it. ( key must be on )This will tell you if the starter is ok and that the engine isnt seized. Ive seen a seized alternator prevent and engine from turning over.

which 2 do i cross, the big red one and the medium size one or the tiny one on top. the motor isnt seized because i can turn it over with a 3/8 drive.

Check your ground straps, my neighbors Mini wouldn't turn over after she came home for lunch one day, turned out a strap was broken. Replaced it and it started just fine.
