I'm having some consistency problems with this phone talking to the e90...I was able to pair the device properly when I set it up initially & was able make and receive calls just fine but when you turn off the engine and restart the car it has to search again for the device but never finds it.....The iphone says it's still paired though.....Anyone here experience something similar....BMW USA is telling me the software version I have may not be compatible with BMW....My version is 2.2.1....

Could this be an iphone problem and not a bimmer issue?

I just talked to the dealer and they think the car will need a 'programming update'...Asked how much this costs'....$200.00 at least w/o warranty.....Yikes
Bluetooth is nice but sheesh...

I have 2006 E90 and an iPhone 3G - Never had an issue.

Next time you take your car in for service - leave a 12 pack in the back seat and show the service advisor that there is a problem in your back seat...
Let him know it will go away if the software update is done!

I have no problem with mine... I have 2.2.1 jailbroken and it works perfectly on the 06 330i. I'd wipe out both the profile on the phone and in the car and redo the sync before you take it in. You shouldn't have any issues.

iPhone 3G's aren't on the compatible list. If it works, fantastic, if it doesn't, stiff bikkies

Bluetooth is a connectivity standard. It should work w/ any phone in my opinion. So either BMW doesn't follow spec, or the iPhone doesn't follow spec if that is the case, but in theory, all bluetooth devices should be able to pair w/ each other.

Not quite, BT is plagued with interoperability issues. I agree that it should ideally work between any phone and accessory/device, but in reality it doesn't. It is not about BMW not following the spec, it is about the spec being unclear and the fact there are various BT protocol version and profiles and there is a lack of proper interoperability standards.
