I'm not a fan of Deval, but he did say he would attempt to veto the tax hike. Unfortunately, both the bill passed both the house and senate with enough votes to override his veto.

He only did that to make himself appear to defend the tax hike although he knew that it would pass anyway...politics...

Increase in sales tax? I could have gotten behind a gas tax(yeah thats right I said it).
I had liked how MA was a nice easy number to calculate sales tax. Now they've gone and fucked up my shit.

I could have gotten behind spending less than 13 billion of a 28 billion state budget on "public assistance". I like how cutting welfare by 5-10% isn't an option, rather we drain the wallets of the hardworking and up and coming generation.
And the Boston Globe was trying to figure out why we're leaving the state in droves.

Yeah, me too. The worst part about the sales tax is, once it goes up, what's the likelihood of it going back down? Once the economy picks up and people start buying stuff in Massachusetts (and paying sales tax), getting jobs (and paying income tax), and businesses start expanding (and pay more corporate taxes), the budget shortfalls will end. And we'll still be paying 6.25% sales tax. :rolleyes

It will never goes away once it's hit us. Like the MTA, it supposely short term remembered and look it still here and raising tolls like no tomorrow.

Also what about the taxi rate hikes that were only because of the high gas prices? I really loath taking taxis in the city.
