I bought a used 06 325i and the BMW logo on the steering wheel is a bit worn. Any suggestions on how to remove/ replace the logo? Also where should I buy a replacement?

Try http://www.bavauto.com/ for the steering wheel logo.

Im pretty sure you have to replace the entire steering wheel, and that is ridic. expensive. I dont think you can just "pop" the log off the wheel and swap it with another one...I dont understand how people wear out there steering logo :confused??? I feel for you man, it would bother the hell outta me too looking at a scratched up logo every time I enter the car

i gor the same issue, it is not scratched up it is just looking like someone just poured some acid on it... seems like a common issue with e9x and even prev generations... I took it to a dealer (still under warranty) and they stated that something was spilled over on it hence the look so no replacement for me.... thinking about fighting it though but may just let it go - will see......

My new to me 06 has the same issue. My 2001 540 I traded in had a perfect emblem on the steering wheel, and that car was 5 years older with over double the miles of my 330!

some parts in our cars are either way too cheaply or stupidly made

for instance, the emblem on the steering wheel, exterior door handles (don't they stuck out when it is wet/dew outside, aliminum interior trim, interior driver side door handle peeling, etc....

also, to the list of common 3 series problems like window regulators, they added a few more such as steering column (many enough ppl complained about not being able to unlock the steering wheel/start the car)

are u kidding me.... sorry for venting out, but just get pissed from these little things that seem to be easy fix for BMW.... still love the car and willing to drive it w/o window regulators and with door handles stuck out, but common......

Yep...my car was a CPO....I also had them replace the door pull peeling, the steering wheel mat black trim, the driver's side mirror, the driver's seat bottom, and both keys (missing roundels). They told me they didn't want to fix the items because then they would have to pay for them, versus if I brought the car back in, they would be warr. items. It was not a fun process and should have been done to begin with, but it did get done.

You got your keys replaced because of the roundel had peeled off ...I wonder if I can do that....Im gonna try and get them to treat the leather seats by saying "they are wearing too quickly"....Ill report back tomorrow, appointments in the morning

The service manager at Patrick BMW (Schaumburg, Illinois) was fantastic about it. He understood completely, being that a CPO car is supposed to be reconditioned and a premium product!

Negative on the "leather seats are wearing too quickly" - haha, it was worth a try atleast...

Is this unreasonable to ask BMW warranty repair to fix?

I just bought my 2006 325i, had it a couple weeks and noticed these problems with the CPO car.

1.) Replace BMW steering wheel logo (replace airbag assembly if needed)
2.) Brakes squeek, make odd noise
3.) Got paint on the rim (appears they did touch up paint on my cpo car and got some paint on the RIM)

Not at all! That is why you have a CPO car!

BMW field rep looked at my car today and denied the claim to replace the roundel on the steering wheel. It looks like crap but I will admit throwing a new airbag on just for that is questionable. I have seen a 3M-type film that sticks over the top of the existing emblem. I may give that a shot.

That is a bummer. I just made my appointment, which is in 2 weeks. Hopefully it will get approved but also agree it is a bit much to replace the entire air bag for a shiny logo. Then again it is an expensive car and the logo should not fade this quickly, it should be replaced.

Well, after my dealer refused to replace my faded bmw steering wheel logo, I gave them a rather poor results on the survey . They immediatly responded back to me and are going to replace the logo/airbag but still state it is not a warrantable matter but will still do it. I appreciate this, but what a poor design that the whole airbag has to be replaced for the roundel.

Didn't take pics of mine, but it looks very faded or discolored, even my passengers noticed it and brought it to my attention, so you should notice it.

I have replaced this bag and the roundel is molded onto the black plastic. I took one off of a blown bag by cutting in a circle around the black plastic and then glued it to my Chinese clone top case on my BMW bike. It was stolen(emblem) while bike was parked at a Mexican tourist spot! Go to a salvage yard that has a car with a blown bag-a throwaway item and never inventoried- and cut it off-IF they are nice they might just go along!

I own a custom graphics company and we have just released a new laminate that looks absolutely identical to the original steering wheel emblem. It adheres over the old emblem and no one can tell it has been replaced. The laminate is manufactured from a 7 year outdoor durable cast pvc material. It does not fade or crack. It takes about 10 minutes to install. It is made in the USA. My company has been selling them through a wholesale distributer and today I decided to put some on ebay and see what happens. Here is a current listing as of 07/19/2010. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200498183356&viewitem=&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D1&category=33643

There are replacement roudels that slip over the existing badge. They have glue on the insideband once on you can't tell the difference. I did mine with a carbon fiber look badge. Looks like new in black and silver.

The badge in on there with three tabs that go into the airbag cover like staples. No getting it off without ruining the badgeband no installing a new one. Use the badge covers that are out thee. Look like new and sticks overbthe old one. Can't tell the difference.

Mine is a CPO and the dealer had to order a new airbag assembly to replace it. Keep trying different dealerships if it bothers you that much (it did me!).

Airbag replaced, looks good! Of course when I got it back the doors would not unlock with the key fob so they had to replace the fuse with a higher current one and the two front door lock actuators. They also updated my software since they had it in.

The 2006 325i I recently purchased was advertised as a CPO, what is the best way to go about verifying this?
