I'm in the process of buying a 95 E30 M3 and before purchase I had the car inspected at the local dealership. It was determined to be mechanically sound, but the alignment technician in the next bay over pointed out (by eye, not on the rack) some interesting suspension issues:
The front left wheel has more castor than the front right, such that it is roughly 3/4" farther forward in the wheel well than the right front. The front left wheel also has no camber whatsoever, as if its standing straight up.
There doesn't seem to be any evidence of an accident or body modification, all the lines are straight/no swirls in the paint/no overspray or clues under the hood, with the exception of a front right headlight that is poorly aligned (keeping in mind that all the irregularities seem to be on the front left).
What could be going on here? Which one is in fact the wheel that's off, if not both? Could a strut top have been replaced without its pair on the other side? Or with non-95 strut tops? Or could someone have replaced the control arm bushings with non-95 (centered) ones rather than the 95-specific ones (with an offset)?
Please help a relative n00b figure out what the problem is. Thanks!
