I found an ad about 9:30pm last night, that had been posted at about 8pm. It said "19inch BMW wheels $200". I clicked on the ad and saw a set of BBS Style 5's..no way. But they don't come in 19 inch..hmmm. $200 for a set of Style 5's is a steal either way, but I was banking on the fact that he measured from lip to lip, meaning these were in fact the rare sought after 18's. He tells me he has had a flurry of phone calls and emails in the 2 hours since he posted them, and asks if he priced them too low. My karma believing intuition tells him that I'm sure if he waited, he could squeeze some more money out of them... But how much money, I wasn't going to say unless he asked directly. I had him look under the center cap and was able to verify what I thought was true :alright. 18x8 Style 5's.

I get a call on my way to the sellers house letting me know that someone beat me there, and asking if I wanted to offer more money. I offered $300. The other guy matched my offer.....My heart sinks. I don't have much more money to spend all willy nilly like this. I tell the seller I will stop at an ATM and grab as much cash as I am comfortable spending if he is still interested in showing them to me. It sounds like the seller told "the other guy" That he would let him know what I offered and give him a chance to counter the next day..I have adrenaline pumping through me like crazy wondering what's going to happen, and completely giddy inside at the thought of walking away with a $1400 set of wheels for next to nil.

I arrive at the house after a 35 minute drive and get a look at the wheels. The lips look a little beat at first, but upon further inspection it's simply the clear flaking off from years of salt. There is virtually no rash! My heart was beating sooo hard at this point that it took me a moment to realize that not only were they what I was looking for, they are a staggered 18x8/18x9 set. Even better. I REALLY don't want to leave without them.

I fumbled around a little bit, made a few comments about the condition of the wheelset etc. and made my offer. He stared at the wheels for a good 30 seconds, then asked me again how much I had offered. He then turns around and starts showing me the engine bay and interior of his 73 Vette.. This can't be good. He's avoiding answering. shit. But he eventually, after a tormenting few minutes of idle chit chat, tells me that I can take em!

Sweet wheels, and at a killer deal!

Was there actually a second guy though? That's weird, it almost sounds like the dude found out they were worth more and was B.S.-ing you to get more $$$ than the original posting. Then again, some people out there really just don't know what they've got or need to unload something quick.

I actually already have another set of these exact wheels, 18's and everything that I bought back in 05. I'll sell my other set after I'm done polishing them. On these all I'm doing is splitting them, stripping and re-clearing. They will go on my E36 for now, and my E30 M3 whenever I'm done with the motor. So sometime in the next 20 years or so :stickoutt

As for price, I paid $500 for my other staggered style 5 18's, and this deal is much better. Like made me laugh uncontrollably the whole way home.

Thanks for the comments everyone! It's fun to share this with people who get it :buttrock
