Hi,
I posted this in bimmerfest.com before but wanted to get as much feedback as possible.
I'm in the market for a used 2007 or 2008 335i coupe, and I would appreciate any thoughts you could possibly share on the deals below. You can click on the links to see more details. Thanks!
Vehicle 1 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=251551394&dealer_id=100025074&car_year=2007&rdm=1241016755588&num_records=25&model=335I&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=1981&engine=&keywordsrep=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&keywordsfyc=&certified=&body_code=2&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=used&distance=75&marketZipError=false&ct=u&seller_typ=&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&make=BMW&color=&keywords_display=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&body_style=COUPE&drive=&default_sort=priceASC&cardist=13&standard=false)

I like this deal, given the mileage, sport and prem packages. The color's so-so. I just don't know if this is a reasonable price...
Vehicle 2 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=258631146&dealer_id=63523649&car_year=2007&rdm=1241106422390&num_records=25&model=335I&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=1981&engine=&keywordsrep=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&keywordsfyc=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=used&distance=75&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&make=BMW&color=&keywords_display=&scarid=261023768&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&body_style=COUPE&drive=&default_sort=priceASC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=2&sort_type=priceASC&address=60616&advanced=y&end_year=2010&transmission=Automatic&doors=&max_price=&cardist=20&standard=false)

The mileage bothers me a little, I'd probably ask them to throw in an extended warranty. I like the tan leather.

This is very similar to Vehicle 1 but a bit pricier for better mileage I guess.
Vehicle 4 (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=253762129&dealer_id=57970317&car_year=2008&rdm=1241106422390&num_records=25&model=335I&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=1981&engine=&keywordsrep=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&keywordsfyc=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=used&distance=75&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&make=BMW&color=&keywords_display=&scarid=261023768&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&body_style=COUPE&drive=&default_sort=priceASC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=2&sort_type=priceASC&address=60616&advanced=y&end_year=2010&transmission=Automatic&doors=&max_price=&cardist=15&standard=false)

the prices all look reasonable... you really aren't going to find any super-fantastical steals on these cars since they priced pretty consistently

I would never in a million years buy from a place like that. First off most of these "luxury used" car dealers have purchased cars that have been in accidents, have had flood damage, or just plain had problems off of car auctions. Googling their business I came up with many complaints. You're taking a risk with a car that has probably been cleaned up to look good. And don't trust carfax. Everyone knows that there are ways around that. For example, it was recently revealed that cars from the New Orleans floods were ending up for sale across the country at car auctions being sold "like new"with clear carfax reports.
I just paid $36,200 for a 2009 328i coupe with sports package. If you are going to spend that much you might as well buy new. You get better resale (starting with a new car rather than used,) and 4 years coverage bumper to bumper. Dealers will do anything right now to move new cars. I know its not a 335i but the 328i is no slouch.
Edit:
Sorry didn't see that one of the listing was a from a bmw dealership... I would buy that one if I were you.

I didn't look at the dealer(s) myself, but I will also echo the sentiment that I would only buy from a real BMW dealer or the proverbial "little old man".
I've had new, private party used, and CPO'd cars and while they all worked out well (knock on wood), I would never buy from a third-party used dealer. Too shady imo.

Your # 4 car looks well equipped, just a little over priced, not by much.
Good luck on your search and get the car you really want, don't settle for anything less.

Its good to be aware and thoroughly inspect any used car you are going to buy but you are overstating the risk of buying from a "luxury used" dealer. In my area I am aware of a couple of these dealers and they are a part of large dealership groups. They are separate locations and have catchy names but you are basically dealing with a large multi-line dealer.

I'm in the market for an 07-08 335i coupe too, and actually went to Luxury Motors and test drove car #2 that you have listed. It's a spectacular car, fully loaded, but I checked the CARFAX on it and it was in an accident. Shame too because I really wanted to buy it.

I almost bought that first one from luxury auto xchange. I specifically asked if the vehicle had a clean history via a carfax and they said it did. I was going to jump on it but I wanted to see the report with my own eyes and I carfaxed it. Turns out it has a lemon title. I'm pissed, I had the loan all ready and everything.... hopefully it won't effect my credit to cancel it until I find another one.... Why are the 335 coupes so rare?

It won't affect your credit rating.
I'd hardly consider the 335 coupe "rare", they make hojillions of them.... depends where you live I guess.

Some of the "Luxury" dealers really are just part of the bigger dealer and they specialize in selling the off-lease cars...usually without CPO because they can sell them cheaper and usually still have the factory warranty.

I'm actually thinking about buying up the first one again. It had a lemon title because of the fuel pump issue, which has since been fixed with the newer pump, but they know they are going to have a very hard time selling it due to the red on the carfax report. I've already got them pretty much begging me to buy it I'm just not sure whether to pull the trigger.
Like you said beer goggles, they are an affiliate of one of the other car's dealers (perillo) and they are an official BMW dealer.
What do you think guys? If I can get them down to $28,500 on the first one do you think it's a steal?
(no thread jacking)
EDIT: Got them down to $28,300 by using the military discount thing in addition to the carfax report.

You can find some amazing deals at non-dealers however, you will not get the warranty. My friend works at a dealer and told me that it can be the biggest mistake you can make because of the cost for servicing and the fact that BMW will not honor one of the other warranties. Maybe he was just bsing me to buy the car from him. Goodluck and remember to do your homework because any servicing on these cars cost an arm and a leg.

What are the CPOs going for at the actual dealer? Does that lemon car still carry the BMW warranty and I'm going to assume it has the 10 year on the fuel pump?
You can always buy an aftermarket warranty, I've seen 2 companies on TV running ads for that who sponsor NASCAR teams...I don't remember what they are but I'll assume it's between 1-3k depending on the level.
Remember, LEMON is for life on that title and in the future you doing ANYTHING with that car is going to be a pain in the ass. Selling/Trading...maybe even insurance. So it would have to be a much better deal than a regular car...to me, to buy it.
Do you plan on keeping the car? Have you kept all your past cars for longer than 5 years? If not...why not lease? With a 30K loan you'll be more than a lease.

It's original factory warranty is good until sept 2010, and I'm gonna extend the warranty another 3 years until sept 2014, so I think I'll be good on that. I got it about 8000 dollars cheaper than what edmunds says i should have gotten for an equally equipped car. I factored in a couple grand off already given the current auto economy so the lemon title essentially got me about $6000 off the top. I guess you can also count the "military discount" for $500. I really am a Marine but they didn't even ask for proof. That might come in valuable to some of you.
I'm probably going to keep it as long as it will run so hopefully over 5 years.
The dealer tried to tell me that the lemon title wouldn't even depreciate the car after it was more than 4 years old and after I told him he was full of shit and walked out he started to take me seriously and cutting money off the top.
Supposedly they had to run the additional money I got off as a discount on the receipt because if their boss store saw how cheap they sold it for they'd get bitched at. Not sure if that is true or not but I told them I wanted it off the price of the car so I'd pay less tax on it. They offered me the tax difference amount in a gas card so I guess I can't complain.
I also made them show me the full vehicle service history since pretty much its birth, so I can be fairly certain it was in fact a california lemon for only the HPFP issue alone.
I think I got a deal, but I guess only time will tell.
