So I have a customer looking to buy a 650 convertible from our dealership, although he is paraplegic and needs hand controls installed. Im looking to see if anyone here has any experience with this, and can recommend a company to install the device. I have been doing a little bit of research on this.. and it looks like there are companies that have installations all over the country. Although the common vehicle seems to be a van for obvious reasons. That also makes me think if this will even be possible in a 650. I guess I just need a bit of :help with this. Basically.. we wont do the installation here because we dont really want to profit from others disabilities. Thanks in advance guys.

Don't know about 650s but we had hand controls installed in our Murano so that my wife can drive and give me footjobs at the same time.

I saw a guy who had hand controls set-up in an audi a6, i'm sure it's not that far out of reach.

it seemed really cool at first, but then i thought of having steering wheel mounted throttle while trying to keep the ass end from coming around... that would be tough

i guess it would be like playing gran turismo with a controller

I saw a RX7 race car that was setup with hand controls. It's always a custom job so I'm sure it can be done in anything. With the $$ you can do anything.

ORRrrrr You could just give him a long stick to reach the pedals. :)

wait so the feet don't work, but the hands to right?

easy, cut off legs, replace with his arms. now he just operates the pedals with his arms (which are now his legs, but don't say that or else they WONT WORK) and have him steer with his mouf

give me my money for solving your problem

The funny part was when i was talking to my used car sales manager. He said "Tell him he is going to need to do a some leg work on his end" :shifty . Im not sure if he even noticed.. but i chuckled a bit at that.

IMO an easier thing to do would be to install a sort of periscope mechanism so that he can drive with his hands/head in the footwell, and have his gimp legs sticking up in the air...

and just put wheels on top of his hood/trunk so he car drive the car upside-down to see everything rightside-up

doesnt sound too difficult :dunno

Thats a good idea thanks. I didnt know they had arrangements for that. It would def. help if they still do.

BTW some of these comments are so funny, were all diving into hell head first.

I read about this a while ago, it's called the BMW Mobility Program. Here's a page that describes it: http://www.murraybmwofdenver.com/bmw-mobility-program.aspx Not only does it help you find a shop to do it, but apparently if the customer qualifies, BMW NA can reimburse the cost of the conversion 100%.
