I did a search and could not find anything. I looked in the manual and I know there a 4 jack points.
I have a normal floor jack. The jack points are plastic rectangle slots. I need something to put in the slot. Can I use a piece of wood? Does someone make a insert?
Help!

There's this thing: http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi/?html=learnmore.html&productID=251251
But you don't need it. You can jack it up by putting your jack pad right next to the jack points and it'll work just fine. In fact, that's what the bmw techs do with their lifts, which are generic and don't have bmw-specific pads.

A block of wood will work fine.

I personally prefer not to put the all 4 corners on jack stands; instead I will have 2 stands (on front or on rear) and a jack as a back up support. That way if a jack stand fails I will have the jack as a back up. Those stands are not reliable and can break anytime.

The ones I use are 3 ton jack stands - had them first for my dodge ram 1500
but do what you feel is comfortable. :buttrock

If you are just jacking up one point say to change a tire, the jack kit with torque wrench from Bavarian works well.

Wellllll... the pads on the hoists are flat and can be positioned anywhere so that the car is lifted by the pads. But no, the hoists don't have little blocks that fit up inside the jack pad the way the jack does, if that's what you mean.
As opposed to a regular jack that has basically a bowl on it that will damage the rocker panel if used in the way that you suggest.

Does BMW have something, other than the jack I would have to buy, to put in the jack holders so I can use my floor jack?
Also this weekend, at an AutoX, I saw people lifting their car from one jack point, some front some rear, and lifting both wheels off the ground. Is this OK? This makes me look like a total noob, but I don't want to tweak my frame.

BMW doesn't, but there are aftermarket jack pad adapters, see the link above.
There are two central lifting points, one near the front transmission case, and one near the rear diff. I used to have a schematic showing them, I will look for it again.

Oops, I was not clear. I meant both front and back, like when rotating tires, with no spare :nono.

There is no just one point that will lift all 4 wheels off the ground at the same time on the E9x.

Take a look at your floor jack. On my Craftsman the bowl shaped thing comes off and you're left with a nice flat metal surface. On my lowered 540 touring the only way I can fit it under the car is to remove this thing and lift up on the car as I'm sliding the jack under the jacking points.
BTW, I've got a deal pending approval from the credit union this morning to trade the touring in on a nice 2006 330i! Hope to be joining you guys here soon. We've got to get some activity over here. The E9X forum is a morgue compared to the E39 one!

So I ordered a jack pad. The one I ordered has 4 rubber nubs, 2 per side, that holds it in place.

So I get my floor jack out and start to jack the car. No go, it's dead, so new jack time. It was a 15 year old cheap jack. Anybody have any ideas on a good jack? I hear the Sears jack dies.

Go to Costco. I was there yesterday and they have a really nice low profile one for about a hundred bucks.

I checked out HF and NT, lots of jacks. I'm not a Costco fan but my wife likes it so I have a membership. Went on the website and found a 1.5 ton AL jack, I really wanted something a little bigger to jack the truck but I hope to need a jack at the track soon so I figured I would go look. They only had a 3.5 ton, heavy as heck but low profile and looks nice, only 2 left, $100.
