Hey everyone, brand new to the boards.(Didn't see an intro forum, so hopefully this is O.K. for my first post)

I'm picking up an M3 (E46)

I plan on throwing a turbo kit on it, going to read around the boards as far as what the best internals are for the block to handle the power, along with any other required mods needed. So I won't bug you with that unless I can't find anything with the search button.

I have a bad racing/modding bug that has turned my money tree to look more like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree.:rolleyes

But I do have a quick question regarding the tranny....

SMG or not when it comes to high horsepower applications on these cars? Which is the best suited tranny?

Thanks gang, looking forward to becoming an active member.
(I'm a forum whore on my lightning site and always try to give back to the community)

I currently have a 2003 Ford Lightning. HP/TQ thru the roof, and puts down a pretty good time in the 1/4 mile. But I won't waste your time with my little ole pick up truck as I'm sure non are interested, lol.:devillook

horsepowerfreaks which has been making high horsepower turbo kits for the e46 m3 has installed their kits on both transmissions. it seems the smg can definitely handle the power output but the clutch obviously would need to be replaced with an aftermarket clutch for either transmissions.

I have a question about trannies too. I'll post that in off-topic though...

Thank's for the super fast reply. Very much appreciated.

That was actually what brought me to these boards.
I always wanted an M3, saw one of the HPF video's, and thought "Now thats my style!"

A sweet looking ride thats fast.

I'm a speed freak so any of the vehicles I have ever owned need to move out hardcore, plus I love going to the drag strip almost every weekend, but have been toying with the idea of hitting a road course.

Thanks again for the info, I was just worried the SMG would not hold up as well...

Not sure, much more research to do on the subject.
I'm not one to just jump head first into a project and think about it later.
I like to plan my build out, I'd rather do it right the first time.

My Truck has been being built for 2 years already. Made a plan for it, stuck to it, and just keep adding the needed parts.

Here's my, as the wife call's it, "Succubus" Since she sucks all my free time and money.
Whipple Supercharger, NX wet Kit, 10 second truck.

Obviously I don't use those rims for the track thou, lol 22's would suck.

I wish someone would show some interest in putting an automatic in a turbocharged e46 m3 to see how capable they actually are.....

I have a question regarding trannies. How come there are so many for sale on Craig's List?
