If you build your own BMW on the website do they all get built in Germany? I know there is a plant in SC that builds only X5 and X6 but what if you want a 1-series? Whats the usual time you have to wait from when you submit your build to delivery? I am expecting around 3 weeks no?

Umm you can't build your own... you only make the build, print it off, and take it into your nearest dealer and they try to find you one that is similar in their inventory. If you pick very abstract combinations you will have a hard time finding your car, but usually you can find one somewhere.
The only time a car actually gets "built" custom for you and you wait for it is when you order a BMW Individual, which is FAR more expensive. I think dealers may be able to submit requests but I don't know much about that process, and I'm sure the wait time is over 3 months.

Most of this, is not correct.
If a customer wants BMW to build a car, all they have to do is go to the nearest dealer, describe the options and place a deposit. Its about 75 days, turn around time for a new car either with Euro delivery or stateside delivery. If the customer wants an option that is not in the regular option list such as the color, then it goes through the BMW individual program.
If the customer is impatient and is not willing to wait for a car to be built. Then will a dealer search through other dealers to try and find a car with the options the customer desires.
BMWs built in Germany, 1,3,5,6 7, ///M cars and the Z4
BMWs built in the States, X3, X5, X6

Sorry guys, I was told when ordering my 6 if I wanted to wait for one to be built to my specs it would be about 3 months. I found one in inventory in Houston that was almost a complete match (except missing adaptive cruise) so I took it.
But bottom line, you cannot have one built through the "build your own" section of the bmw website. I think that's about the only thing I was correct about!
As for the individual, I've heard a lot of dealers in the US won't even go through that process unless you are already a good customer or you make a huge deposit because they are more difficult to sell if you change your mind and don't take the car.

Hey thanks a lot man. I knew that my cousin had hers built in Germany and shipped over but I could not remember the time frame. Thanks for the info!:buttrock
If the dealer has to look through other dealers to obtain the car am I going to be looking at a larger cost? Just because they have to transport the vehicle from the other dealer to theirs? Or will they take care of that cost by themselves I get it at the price advertised.

if you notice when you build the car online they add a deliver fee, usually a few hundred bucks

If the car you want is sitting on another dealers lot. You will be charged extra for the transportation to bring it to your dealer. It shouldn't effect the sales price though, only an additional transportation fee.
Say for instance, if a new BMW just reached the Oxnard port. And your dealer buys it from its original destination dealer then there wouldn't a charge to bring the BMW to your dealer. Of course they will only sell the BMW if it wasn't ordered by someone else.
I hope this makes sense.

Got ya. It includes a $875 delivery and handling charge so I would pay a little more. Thanks for the info I actually just got an e-mail back from the dealer and he is putting a search out for me since my lease is up in 3 weeks. Thanks a lot guys.

there's a pretty good chance we have what you're looking for... we have a TON of cars just sitting in storage because dealers won't take them.
