I'll be doing a head gasket job. When I bought the motor the PO said it had ARP head studs. Anyway to confirm this once I remove them? Obviously this will save me the cost of buying new ones...
and does it matter length of the stud if I am going from .140 HG back to stock .070

Studs have threads on both ends? As which type of stud, I have no idea.
Are you really asking what is the difference between a stud and a bolt?

So BMW OEM headgaskets use bolts as opposed to arp being studs with nuts?
I am asking because I need to know, not looking for sarcastic remarks Mr. Sperry.

Factory bolts are TTY bolts ( torque to yield, one use bolts)
If you take your valve cover off..you will either have bolt heads, or studs with nuts...
And if you have bolt heads you have factory headbolts...

Thanks. If you can't tell by now, this is my first head gasket job. I've done an auto/manual conversion and two motor swaps on this car. I'll have my buddy, a UTI graduate assisting me throughout the process with the proper tools.

I wasn't being sarcastic...
If it's a bolt you toss it in the garbage, if it's a stud you can reuse it.
I didn't even know anybody but ARP made studs for this engine.
And I would hope that if you can take the valve cover off, you can tell the difference between a bolt and a stud. I have been wrong on this before. There are some special olympians on the internet.

I've done a few auto/manual swaps and motor swaps. I am not an idiot.
Did you get my PM?
