Where can you jack on the '97 and up 540i E39 chassis?

Is the center of the frame K-member just behind the engine oil pan plug capable of lifting the front of the car without bending?

Where can you put jack stands besides the rocker panel jacking spots?

Obviously I can't jack the car up on the rocker panel jack points and install a jackstand in the same position. This is my dilemma.

Thanks for any replies.

That is a dilemma. I haven't had my E39 for long enough to get under it but from what I have read you can jack the car with a floor jack using the suspension cross members as your jacking point and then get your stands under the support spots on the rocker.

I don't have a good enough floor jack to do that so my plan is to jack it up at the rocker pannel high enough to get ramps under the wheels (sports models are too low to just drive up onto the ramps). I guess one could also jack the car up at the jacking points and put stands under the suspension cross members.

at the front... use the center of the cross-member... my wife's touring actually has a rubber pad there for guidance.

floor-jacks go under the rocker sills where the dealer/shop would put the pads for the lifts.

jacking the rear is a bit different... as long as you are quick about it, you can lift the car using the diff and get teh stands under it and the stress of the diff ASAP.
