Hi! I'm new to this site. I have just purchased a 2002 BMW 525D SE with 92K on the clock. It has Main Dealer History up to 75K and then then an independent stamp at 85k. The 85K service was completed in November 2007. So the vehicle has only done 7k since the last service.
There are 2 service lights still illuminated on the dashboard. Should i get the car serviced anyway or rely on these lights?
I purchased the car privately.
Can I also ask; how many miles should I get out of my car if I maintain the services?
How often should I get it serviced?
Would greatly appreciate reliable advice.
I'm based in England!

Get your codes read asap
Regular service intervals have nothing to do with things breaking down.
Reading the codes has nothing to do with the service lights (I assume you mean the lights on the service interval indicator, not trouble lights). Get it serviced, but include brake fluid and a coolant flush, as well as a full inspection. The car has been sitting too long.

Oh, I read that as the service engine soon light. It would definitely help to clarify, because it doesn't sound like he understands them very well. I don't believe I have any sort of general service interval indicator in my E39, I do have brake pad and oil level though.

take it to a dealer and have the lights checked and cleared...

The lights I'm referring to are the Service Interval lights - I have 2 bars remaining before it's due for a service but was thinking of having one just for my own peace of mind given that it was a private purchase.
*******How many miles can i expect to get (roughly) out of my 525?*******
Oooh and by the way;THANK YOU for your feedback so far - this seems like a good forum; providing the feedback is reliable.
